How We Met: So how does a boy from Kansas meet a girl from South Carolina? Here is the story. I am a senior now in college, but I met the man of my dreams when I was a freshmen. I went to visit a friend at another college to go to a soccer game with her. While we were at the game, I saw a super tall and super cute guy. I am a tall girl, so I always notice tall guys. I thought to myself, “Wow! That guy is super hot and I have got to meet him!” I looked over at my friend and said to her, “Who is that guy?” She said, “Oh that’s my friend Mark!” I was thinking in my head, I am a winner. So I told her that I had to go meet him.

When we met, he was very sweet and a true gentleman. I knew in my heart that he was different than any other guy I have ever met. We sat together at the soccer game, took some fun pictures, and then it was time for me to leave. I thought to myself that he would never be interested in me. I went to another school and I was two years younger than him…why would he be interested in me? When I got home that night, I had a friend request from him. I was so excited over that friend request. Soon we were messaging, then texting, going on our first dates and then the rest is history! He is the guy that I have prayed for, wished for, hoped for, waited for and dreamed of my whole life. He is my prince charming and I absolutely cannot wait to marry him!! I am the happiest girl alive to call him mine.

how they asked: Mark’s proposal was perfect and it was a fairytale come true. My family was on a Disney cruise for a week in the Caribbean. My dad told my brother and I that we could pick an excursion to go on at the island of Cozumel, Mexico. My brother chose to go to this Xplor park (ziplining, diving in caves and etc.) So, my brother and dad went for the day on that excursion. I wanted to go to the Tulum Mayan Ruins! It’s a tour of the beautiful ruins and then you get to enjoy the afternoon on the beach of the ancient city. Sounds like paradise right? It was perfection. After my family got off the ship, we said goodbye to my dad and brother and then my mom, Mark and I went on our excursion to Tulum.

When we got there, we started out on the tour with a group. All of a sudden Mark wanted to leave the tour and go look off the cliffs at the beach. I told him that we can’t leave the tour because we would get in trouble. (I’ve always been a worry wart haha.) I told him after the tour, we could see the beach all afternoon. But he wanted to go now (so he could propose). If I only knew what was about to happen. So he convinced me to leave the tour. He said we would go look really quick and then catch back up with the tour.

So my mom, Mark and I made our way towards the cliffs. All of a sudden my mom disappeared. I asked Mark where she went and he said she probably went back to the tour, I said we need to go too. Little did I know, my mom went away so she could take pictures from a distance. His perfect plan was all happening the way he planned. We were standing on the cliffs, looking over at the beautiful turquoise Caribbean sea and talking. It was the perfect moment. I wanted to stay there forever, take the moment in and never forget it. I looked over at him and he looked at me in a way he has never looked at me before and smiled at me with his sweet smile. We talked for a couple of minutes and just took in the perfect moment. I grabbed his hand and turned to my right to walk down the cliffs to go back to the tour and then he tugged on my hand to turn me around in the other direction. When I turned around, he was on one knee.

I was so surprised!! I had no idea. I had a ton of feelings going on all at once, I was happy, excited, and surprised! I could not stop squealing, laughing, smiling, and giggling! I asked him a ton of questions. He said that my mom was taking pictures in the distance and my dad knew that he was going to propose. My brother did not know and I could not wait to tell him when I saw him back on the cruise ship! Soon, I saw my mom and she greeted me with happy, joyful tears. I thought I was in the perfect moment standing over the cliffs looking out in the Caribbean with my boyfriend and then it turned into an even more perfect moment when I had a fiance! Then, we took some fun engagement pictures and enjoyed the day at the beach. I could not stop looking at my ring, I could not stop smiling, I could not stop thanking Mark for the perfect fairytale proposal! It was all a dream come true. Who knew I would leave the country with a boyfriend and come back with a fiance? My dream came true at the Tulum Mayan Ruins in Cozumel, Mexico and I have all I’ve waited for and I could not ask for more!

His side: Lindsey Child first walked into my life at a college soccer game. Even though there were thousands of people in the stands surrounding us, I really felt the world slip away and she was the only thing I saw that night. I know it may sound cliché, but honestly, it’s true.

Lindsey and I were students at different universities and a mutual friend introduced us at the game. I prayed that entire night it wouldn’t be the last time I would see her. I desperately wanted to get to know the beautiful woman sitting next to me; and not just that night, but the next day and the next day and the next day. That night, we struck up a friendship that laid the foundation for the relationship we would build later.

The night ended in a way we’ll never forget. She had a giant, fake diamond ring on her keychain and as a joke I got down on one knee and proposed. Who knew about two and a half years later I would be down on one knee again, this time asking the woman of my dreams to marry me for real?
