How We Met
Gary and I went to the same high school. Our sisters were best friends so we knew each other well but never looked at each other “that way” until we started hanging out in college. Our first date was to Dairy Queen to get ice cream in his mustang :) After that, the pieces started to fall into place. We moved around the country together for my job, then for his job as a pilot. We moved from Ohio to Texas, then back to Ohio, then to Florida, then to North Carolina, then back to Florida where we finally settled down and bought our home on the gulf coast, after 7 years together :)
How They Asked
Gary realized he had a few days off work and asked if I wanted to go on a trip. We planned a quick trip to Mexico (booked it about one week beforehand!) We landed and went straight to the beach, Piña Coladas in hand. We decided to get ready for dinner early that first night so we could snap a few photos on the beach. As we were walking to the beach down a palm tree-lined pathway, Gary stopped, got down on one knee and asked me to be his co-pilot for life. I started crying immediately, then heard “click click click.” I turned to see my sister (a wedding photographer in Charleston, South Carolina) snapping photos!
He flew my sister to MEXICO to take photos of the engagement! (With one week’s notice!) I was in such shock I sat down on the pavement and started bawling. My sister took our photos on the beach then we headed to dinner to celebrate, pop a bottle of champagne and FaceTime our families. My sister took a few more photos the next morning, we headed to brunch together then she headed home and we enjoyed our engage-acation for a few more days. I am in love with our photos – it’s so special that my sister was able to take them and I still can’t believe he pulled it off!
