How We Met
Brent and I like to joke that contrary to popular belief, “What happens in Vegas” does not always stay in Vegas…
By pure luck, or in our eyes fate, we both happened to be in the same place (the Bellagio lobby) at the same time (my 23rd birthday) in Las Vegas two and a half years ago.
My best friend Susanne and I drove out to Las Vegas to celebrate my birthday, and Brent had flown in with a few friends to see a Jimmy Buffet concert. It was Friday evening, and Susanne and I decided to call it a night and head back to our hotel room. As we were walking through the Bellagio lobby, we crossed paths with Brent and his friend Patrick. We exchanged numbers, and the next day, Brent and his friends invited Susanne and me to join them at a pool party and then later that evening to join them for the Jimmy Buffet concert.
That Sunday, we went our separate ways and headed back to our respective homes. The best part about how we met is that I had just moved to California from Connecticut, and Brent had just moved to California from St. Louis. It turned out that we lived just 10 minutes away from one another in Orange County.
That Sunday evening, Brent picked me up and took me out to dinner. Sunday night pizza has ever since been a special tradition for us…
how they asked
We were having dinner at Montage Laguna Beach’s Studio restaurant the evening Brent proposed. We live right down the street, and I’ve been working for Montage for a few years, so the resort has become a special place to us, and it’s one of our very favorite places to spend time.
It was the most beautiful evening, and the most amazing dinner. As we were finishing our meal, Brent asked me if I wanted to go on a walk with him to catch the sunset at the park next to the restaurant. When we got to the middle of the park, Brent stopped and as I looked up at him, I saw a smile I had never seen on him before.
A few seconds later, I looked over and saw our friend Cyrus. He had a camera and something very special, our miniature dachshund puppy, Charlotte.
Cyrus let Charlotte off her leash, and (after running aimlessly in excitement for a few moments), she finally saw Brent and me and came sprinting over.
I looked down and noticed she had a small gold pouch strung to her collar. Brent unzipped the pouch, pulled out a little blue box and got down on one knee.
It was the most amazing moment of my life, and I haven’t stopped smiling since.
