How We Met
Ryan and I met online a few months after I moved to Dallas for a new job. I only knew a few people in town, so I turned to online dating to meet new people, and within two weeks, met the love of my life! Our first date was supposed to just be a quick drink but ended up lasting over 6 hours. We had an instant connection and were inseparable from the get-go. We had a shared passion for travel and always put family first; he even jokingly invited me on his family cruise scheduled a few months later during our second date!
How They Asked
We were spending Christmas Eve with Ryan’s family, with my parents and brother joining us. I had thought there was a chance he might propose during the holidays, but he’d already given me diamond earrings Friday night when we did our own private Christmas, so I just assumed he was going to wait until after my sister’s wedding and do it for our anniversary in February.. I was certain he wouldn’t propose Christmas Eve since my sister and her fiancé were spending that evening with his family, and having our families together for that moment would be so important to both of us. We started playing a game of Pictionary Man, and I saw some phones out, but I just assumed people were taking pictures of everyone having fun together for Christmas so I didn’t think anything of it. Then, Ryan got up for his turn and started drawing a ring; diamond ring; engagement ring! Obviously, I guessed pretty quickly. Once I got it right, I made some snarky remark along the lines of, “At least he drew it to scale!” in reference to how large the diamond was.
Ryan then approached me, and I just thought he was being silly since I made a sassy comment about his drawing (which was actually very good since he’d secretly been practicing!). He grabbed my hand and made a joke about it looking like a perfect fit, so I stuck my tongue out at him, he then tossed the drawing over his shoulder and got down on one knee. At this point, I’m totally FLOORED and react with a very wary, “Whaaaat’re you doing?” Ryan got the ring box out of his boot, opened it up, and asked, “Lindsay Paige ‘Cougar’ Morrison, will you marry me?”
Through my tears, I, of course, said “Yes!”, kissed him, and then when I looked around I noticed all the phones out recording the moment and FaceTiming people who couldn’t be there. Evidently, my mom was on FaceTime with my sister the whole time, while she and her fiancé were sitting in the driveway waiting for me to say yes so they could surprise me!
