Lindsay and Alex
How We Met
Alex and I met as I was walking into my first class at grad school. Our graduate program hadn’t officially started, but they were doing a review class for those who wanted a brief Statistics review before we officially started our program. Alex had already been attending for a few weeks, but I had moved from DC. He was walking in front of me heading into class and glanced behind him to look at me. My first thought was, “Uh-oh. This guy could be trouble for me.” Apparently his first thought was, “That girl is beautiful.” Over the next few days, he found creative ways to talk to me and had his friend, Vivi, find out if I was dating anyone. After she talked to me about it, she went and told him and he basically ran over to me and asked for my number. Once he got my number, he didn’t stop texting me… The rest is history!
how they asked
Apparently, Alex had been planning our amazing weekend for awhile. He knew that I had always wanted to stay at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville at Christmas time and he worked behind the scenes to plan a surprise perfect weekend for us. He had our friend, Noah, trick me into going along with the trip to Asheville. When we arrived at the Grove Park Inn and after he checked in, he made a special point for us to get hot chocolate (this is seriously one of my favorite treats… I’m obsessed) from a hot chocolate stand made out of Gingerbread! Once we got our hot cocoas, he asked if we could wander around on the many outdoor patios of the Grove Park to enjoy the expansive views of the Smoky Mountains. When he found a good spot, he set up his camera to take pictures. I was planning to startle him by jumping on his back during one of the poses and while I was mid-jump, Alex got down on one knee. At first, I was completely confused, but when I realized what was happening, he said, “Lindsay Anna Holden, you are the love of my life and my best friend. Will you marry me?” Of course I said, “YES!!!” I looked up from our private moment and realized there were tons of spectators taking photos and videos of us.
The surprises didn’t end there as he had the whole weekend planned to make it extra-special for us. Champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, and roses were waiting for us in our (upgraded) room. Then, we went to a super special dinner at Chestnut restaurant in Asheville where they had a surprise engagement announcement waiting for us on the menu, and complimentary drinks and desserts for us to keep the celebrating going!
