How We Met
Adam and I met just over three years ago. We were both working in the same region as junior dentists and attended the same training day. I was a little late, so I slipped in at the back and jumped into the first spare seat I could see. Right next to Adam! We chatted throughout the morning of presentations but hadn’t really had a chance to be properly introduced. After lunch, just as I was leaving, Adam pulled me to one side. He introduced himself and asked me my name. We couldn’t stop smiling at each as he told his favorite name was Lily. I know it sounds so cliche, but I swear I knew in that very moment.
As soon as I got in the car, I messaged my best friends to tell them I’d met the man I was going to marry. We still have the messages on our phones as proof!
how they asked
Myself, Adam and my family are all very passionate about skiing and go skiing regularly in Europe. This year, we had planned to go to Kitzbuhel in Austria. We had booked a luxury spa hotel, as my it was also mine and my twin sister’s birthday whilst we were out there. Adam told he’d planned a birthday surprise for me in the middle of the week. He wouldn’t tell me what it was but let me take a guess. I was certain it was ski-paragliding or ski-dooing as it’s always something we’ve wanted to do.
On Wednesday the 28th February, Adam and I got up early for breakfast and out before the rest of the family. We walked through the town in order to reach the ski lift that would take us to my surprise! We carried our ski’s and boots, as he told me we’d need normal shoes on as well. I was now certain it was going to be ski-dooing and was starting to feel pretty nervous!
We arrived at the top of the lift, and were met by a charming Austrian man called Pascal. Pascal shouted hello, shook both of our hands and beckoned us towards his snowmobile. I turned to Adam and said ‘I knew it!’, and we both hopped on the snowmobile, with Pascal driving. We sped through the snow-covered mountains, taking in the most beautiful scenery and how peaceful and quiet it was.
It had been freezing cold and cloudy at the start of the holiday, but this day couldn’t have been more different with glorious sunshine and blue skies.
As we got to the top of one of the quietest ski routes I’ve ever seen, Pascal slowed down beside a heart drawn into the snow. Next to the heart was a small ski hut. Pascal asked us jump off the snowmobile, and then proceeded back down the mountain on the snowmobile, along with our ski’s and boots! As I turned to Adam to ask ‘what do we do now?’, he took hold of my hand and walked me towards the ski hut.
It was without a doubt one of the most breathtaking views I have ever seen. As I turned to look at Adam, to thank him for organizing this beautiful birthday surprise, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!
It was the most amazing moment of our lives and certainly one we will never forget! And for the next surprise! After I’d stopped crying and shaking, Adam knew the next thing I’d want to do would be to call my family and tell them the good news! He asked me to wait a few minutes before I called them so that we could pop to a nearby restaurant for a celebratory drink. We walked for about five minutes and came across a beautiful traditional Austrian restaurant. As I walked inside and slipped my coat off, I spotted my family all sat there waving at us!
My Dad was in on the surprise and had organized this to be their lunch spot for the afternoon. It transpired that Adam had asked my Dad for his permission a few weeks before, and they had arranged this part of the plan! The rest of my family had no idea, so I flashed them my ring and told them through my tears and sobs that we were engaged! Cue more tears from the rest of the family!
Lunch felt like a blur. My face ached so much from smiling, and we all listened to how Adam had planned all this in only three days in Austria! It was the most amazing day of our lives! I honestly couldn’t have planned or wished for any better and I have Adam to thank for knowing me so well! Now bring on the wedding!
