Lillie and Eric
How We Met
Eric and I knew of each other from high school but reconnected our sophomore year of college. Although Eric played football in high school and I cheered we somehow managed to never meet face to face. We joke looking back now at old pictures from high school because we are often in the background of each others photos. The closest we came to meeting was through the signs the cheerleaders would make the football players before each football game. After reconnecting in college Eric asked me on our first date, which I was convinced went terribly, but when I heard from him again was convinced other wise. Only weeks into dating each other Eric and I knew we had something special. The first year of our relationship was tough because after only two months of dating Eric moved to North Africa for 7 months for a mission trip. Although it was a long 7 months Eric and I were more confident than ever in our relationship. It has been so unbelievable to think that Eric and I never officially crossed paths in high school and now we are engaged!
how they asked
Eric had told me that we were going to meet my sister and her husband Adam to walk our dogs at Chickamauga Battlefield one Saturday afternoon. I was a little suspicious because Eric said he wanted us to look nice to take pictures with the dog but convinced myself it wasn’t happening because his family was out of town and all of my friends had an event that day. We got to the park where we were greeted by Hannah, my sister, and Adam. We all began walking straight towards a line of trees and Eric says to me, “Wow Lillie look someone has left a treasure chest here!” I finally realized what was happening and could not stop smiling. Eric lead me over to an antique chest that he bought and inside were pictures of us, a bible with both of our names on it, and the ring. Eric pulled out his bible and read to me Matthew 13:44 which reads, “The kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought the field.” Eric explained to me how I was his treasure and how he would give everything up for me and our relationship. Before I knew it Eric pulled out the cutest little blue box that had a “W” on it for my soon to be new last name and inside was the ring my Papaw gave to my Nana for their 25th wedding anniversary. I couldn’t contain my excitement and starting clapping and jumping up and down. Before I could comprehend everything that had happened I noticed my family and friends walking towards Eric and I. Having my closest friends and family around made the moment so real for me and it could not have been more perfect!
