How We Met
We met at school when I was a sophomore and he was a freshman. The first thing he ever said to me was “hey I like your socks”. Normally to me, that’s a compliment, but my entire team was wearing them and they were hot pink cheetah print. We became friends and later I switched churches and we ended up at the same church. We were friends for about a year and on November 10, 2013, at a church retreat, I wrote him a note asking him to be my boyfriend and giving him the socks. We grew up together, graduating high school, deciding on what we wanted to be, and where to go to college. We both stayed home throughout college, going to the community college the first two years and the local university the second two. We grew and learned and continued to find more things we loved about each other.
How They Asked
Five years is about to pass, and on October 13, 2018, we were headed to a charity ball benefiting my best friend. He surprised me with getting my hair and nails done that week, but I thought it was for the ball. I was told we were meeting my grandparents at the nearby park to drop off my sister. We get there and my parents, Austin, and I are all dressed up.
We get to this beautiful park and dad suggest we take pictures, so we get out and go take some family ones, and then Austin asked for some of just us, and as we were taking them, he got down on one knee and proposed. It was perfect! He added some of his corniness, my parents, sister, and grandparents, and his mom was a couple of hundred feet away. I couldn’t have thought of a more perfect way he could’ve done it! Now passing that park every day on the way to work makes me think about our future and how happy I am that I’m going to be his wife!
