how they asked
Lanyer and I were a few months away from celebrating our 1 year anniversary. He had mentioned Chicago a couple times so I decided to surprise him with a trip to the Windy City. I booked the flight, rented the hotel, even invited his parents and my parents to go! Everything was all set and going as planned. Our anniversary arrived and I gave him the tickets. He EVEN cried! What I didn’t know was one of my friends had told him months before about the trip and he had been planning our proposal all along! ? Our trip date arrived and we all flew off to Chicago!
Everything was beautiful and it was a dream anniversary trip. Lanyer mentioned he wanted to take me to lunch as a thank you for the trip gift. I gave him a hard time with this because I didn’t want to leave our families alone. However, he convinced me and we went to lunch at LondonHouse Rooftop. When are spectacular views filled lunch was over, a waiter came over and said our family had called and planned a little surprise for us and that we had to both be blindfolded. I felt a bit nervous but I went along with it. Lanyer was blindfolded first and then myself.
We walked a few steps and when they removed my blindfold I was standing in the Cupola with rose petals on the floor, white balloons all around, pictures of us .. and Lanyer in the middle of the Cupola. I looked back and saw my best friends there who had flown in from Miami to surprise me, and mine and his family. It was so unbelievably surreal that I still have a hard time believing it. I walked towards him and we were both crying. He whispered “don’t cry”, said the most beautiful words in the world to me, and got down on one knee and said, “Lianet, marry me.” It was a storybook moment.
To top it off he flew us over Chicago on a sunset helicopter tour. It was the most perfect day of my life. ?✨
