How We Met: After moving to Raleigh for my job, I was invited to a dinner party at a friend of a friend’s parents house. (More specifically, my best friend from college invited me to her prom date’s parents house for dinner, as they both when to high school in Raleigh.) Thomas and I started talking about quickly became friends. We were constantly hanging out in the same group as I was introduced around my new city, and he was always going out of his way to talk to me and invite me to spend time with his friends.
Finally, he told me how much he liked me and asked me to be his girlfriend. I only found out about a year into our relationship that the very first night I walked into his parent’s house his dad caught him looking at me and said “Thomas, you’re going to marry that girl.” Two years later, I said yes!
how they asked: It had been raining all afternoon, which never happens on Catalina (so says the locals!) When the clouds started to break, Thomas asked me to go for a walk with him while my family was still getting ready for dinner. It was so windy and I knew there was hardly going to be a sunset, but Thomas loves photography. So when he asked me to walk out so he could take some pictures over Catalina harbor, it was nothing out of the ordinary. He fake snapped a picture and then turned to me and began to recount the story of the first time he saw me. He said he knew then he was going to marry me (And then I started to cry, of course!)
Everything felt like it was happening in slow motion when he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. “We were together. I forget the rest.” -Walt Whitman
