how we met
Ryan and I met while working together. I was his client, and we traveled and worked alongside each other on several different projects. I always thought Ryan was good looking and charming, but I never knew he felt the same way about me…
At the time we met, Ryan was living in Minnesota and I was living in California. One day he called me and told me he was visiting a friend in San Diego and that he’d like to meet up while he was in town. I was thrilled, but tried to act cool. I told him where to meet my friends and me, and the date was set. It was awesome seeing him outside of a work setting and seeing that my friends loved him.
After he left San Diego, we continued to talk and decided to try giving a long-distance relationship a shot. Fast forward two months to the day I received a call from Ryan saying my boss had reached out to him to set up an in-person meeting. When the two of them met, I was completely shocked to find out my boss had tried to recruit Ryan to work for our company in San Diego. Ryan accepted the position and moved out to San Diego one month later. I had never been a believer in fate until then.
how they asked
On New Year’s Day 2017, Ryan asked me to help his brother and sister-in-law (who’s a professional photographer) shoot some pictures of her and her family who was in town visiting from Sweden. Since we had helped them before, I thought nothing of it. In fact, I told Ryan to dress up a bit so we could take a few photos of our own. Once we arrived, I was looking around for the group but couldn’t find anyone. I turned around to see Ryan down on one knee. I had no clue what was happening until he gestured to his right to the “Marry me” note written in the sand.
Ryan took my hand and told me he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I actually remember laughing when he asked because I was still so in shock. I am the girl no one can surprise, but he did it.
Once I realized what was going on, I spotted my (future) sister-in-law off in the distance taking photos of us. She even got the exact moment I said “YES!” To make things even sweeter, Ryan told me that earlier in the week he had taken my mom, brother, sister-in-law & niece to my dad’s favorite restaurant and ordered his favorite meal while asking my family for permission to marry me. Once he told me that, I burst into tears. I lost my dad to cancer almost four years ago, but Ryan still made sure he was incorporated into our special moment.
After sharing a few sweet kisses, some champagne, and lots of laughs, Ryan then took me to dinner where my family was waiting for me. This perfect day changed me forever. I’ve never felt more in love and safe in my entire life, and I credit Ryan for all of that.
