How We Met
Kev added me on Facebook in May 2011 – I was 18 and Kev was 19 at the time. I remember making the first move and speaking to him on messenger. We got chatting and spoke for about 4 weeks before we decided to meet up. I will never forget he picked me up after my psychology exam on a brand we spent the day together driving along the coast in Sydney. The next day he invited me to come and meet him and his friend who was at a bar on a Saturday night. After a drink together and introducing me to his friend, he walked me back to my car and asked me if I would be his girlfriend.
How They Asked
We were in the Pilanesberg game reserve and Kev had organized a private game drive at sunset. It was just the two of us and a driver (who was in on the proposal). We were driving up the mountain to the tallest point in the national park. I was suspicious of Kev’s behavior and thought that if he was going to propose his cue to pull over would be “I need the toilet” – trust he asked to go to the bathroom and the driver stopped us in the middle of the park and directed Kev to a portaloo. In my head I was thinking ok I was wrong, it’s certainly not going to happen here and I decided to stay in the car.
Anyway, Kev gets back in the car and we continue driving up the mountain – the sun was setting and it was absolutely spectacular. As we reach the highest point in the park, we jumped out of the car and I was in awe of how beautiful the setting was. Trust I got my phone out and started taking pictures of Kev and then I asked Kev to take a picture of myself and then, of course, I and the driver to take a photo of the two of us together. As the driver was photographing us two, Kev asked him to take a video – at that moment my heart sunk and Kev proceeded to get down on one knee and ask me to marry him.
