How We Met
Tim and I met at Chelsea Music Hall (a club in NYC) In January 2019. I texted my DJ friend after a terrible date to tell her I would be going to see her set at the club solo. Upon arrival, I made my way behind the booth and spotted Tim, who was also bopping away at the music as his friend’s DJ set began. Eventually, I found my way to him and we danced the night away. I invited him to a live poetry&music show I produced a few days later, and we’ve been together ever since!
How They Asked
I’m a spoken word poet in NYC, and on January 28th, 2023, I was featuring for my 9th off-broadway show at the Triad Theatre. It was a huge night that I had been preparing for months. I closed out the show as the last of 3 performers, and after an emotional selection of poems, I ended my set with a brand new love poem I had been practicing – about Tim, of course.
It was by far my greatest poem of the night, and as the applause erupted and I thanked the audience, Tim walked up on stage. I was so confused until I saw the box in his hand. In front of a sold-out crowd of 200 people, Tim took the mic from me and got on one knee. He said a beautiful few words and then asked me if I would “do him the honor of marrying him, and being his wife”, to which I replied by taking the mic back and promptly squealing “yes of f****** course!”. It was absolutely perfect.
