Lea and Victor

How We Met

Vic & I met the old fashioned way.. on Instagram! Long story long, in the Fall of 2013, I was living in Dallas, TX and he was living in Tampa, FL. We didn’t have any mutual friends or know of each other whatsoever but somehow, he came across my Instagram page. He liked just a couple of pictures and that was it. I always had random people on my page so I never bothered to look in depth at anyone who just liked some pics. For some strange, magical reason (true story), I decided to look at his page. The first few things I noticed was that he looked tall (and I’m a tall girl so that’s major!), he was very good looking, he was close with his sister, mom, and grandmother (very important and speaks volumes, in my opinion), and he played baseball maybe in college or something. I liked everything that I saw, he seemed literally perfect. I liked a few photos of h6is and then I took a screenshot of one of his photos and sent it to my best friends. I told them that I didn’t know him, I loved him from a distance, and he was my future husband. I had a feeling about him. Then, for another strange, magical reason, I decided to save that text conversation that I had with my friends.

After going back and forth liking pictures on Instagram, I made my move and told him to email me because I was not about to put my phone number on his page (and note, private messages didn’t exist on Instagram in 2013). Within two minutes, I had an email from him! We emailed for about 2 days before exchanging numbers. We starting talking on November 18, 2013. We talked to each other all day every day from that day forward, never missing a single day. We discovered that prior to us ever knowing of each other, he had booked a flight to California that had a 3-hour layover in Dallas! Another strange, magical thing if you ask me! In December of 2013, we met for the first time in person at the DFW airport. We had lunch together, walked around the mall, and had our first little kiss right before he left on his flight. It’s safe to say, things ended up working out with us :).

Here is the text conversation that I randomly decided to save before Vic and I ever spoke. And the last photo is the first picture we ever took together when we met in person for the first time at the DFW airport.

How They Asked

On October 10, 2018, I graduated from the Summit Salon Academy in Tampa, FL and received my Esthetician license. The theme of the graduation was ‘Red Carpet’ so we were all dressed in long gowns. Vic decided that we should go to a nice dinner to celebrate my accomplishment, plus, we were already going to be all dressed up. Made perfect sense to me!

After my graduation, we drove to Oystercatchers. I had never been there before but it looked nice, a place where we didn’t look crazy for being so dressed up. It was actually a very stormy day so the valet helped me out of the car with umbrellas. There was a covered pathway that led up to the restaurant doors and as we walked up Vic was talking about how proud he was of me for graduating and how I had given up so much for him by leaving my friends and family in Dallas to move to Tampa with him a few years ago. He mentioned how I had supported him and dealt with his untraditional job. He plays baseball so he’s only home in the offseason and during the offseason, I have to travel to see him a lot. I didn’t think anything of it, though. I even said, “It’s an okay babe, I didn’t give up that much”, totally ruining how sweet he was being. Haha!

We stepped inside the restaurant and he led me to this room to the left of the hostess stand. He was still talking about the sacrifices I had made and how far we’d come, etc. Now, I was getting suspicious. We step into this empty room that looked like a private dining room. I looked at him and said suspiciously, “What are you doing?” He smiled and kept talking. At this point, so many things were going through my head that I didn’t hear a word he was saying. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I wasn’t even listening and I didn’t even know that I responded but later he told me that I asked, “Is this real?!” and then I said, “YES!”

As soon as I said yes, our families and my two best friends came out from hiding. I was crying so hard! I couldn’t believe everything that was happening. I was engaged! AND our family and friends all flew in from all over just for us. I was so happy! It was, without a doubt, the best night of my life.
