Layne and Sam

How we met: Sam and I met in 2005 when I was a sophomore and he was a senior at Bothell High School. We first met at a party with friends but we only gave each other looks from across the room. Turns out he was my best friends older brothers best friend… So of course he told my best friend how he couldn’t stop thinking about me after that night and wanted to get in touch with me. I thought he was really cute so I agreed and we started talking at school and hanging out together outside of school. We instantly clicked and spent all of our free time together! Soon after, we officially started dating on March 18, 2005. Everyone who knew us back then said they knew we would get married one day. He became my best friend and the love of my life. Fast forward 10 years he is still the same guy I fell in love with then, and I can’t imagine life without him.

how they asked: On our ten year anniversary (March 18, 2015) we made plans to go to Suncadia Resort for a few nights to celebrate our anniversary as well as me recently becoming a nurse. So on our anniversary on our way to Suncadia we decided to stop and check out Snoqualmie Falls because I had never been before. Of course, the days and even weeks leading up to this day all my friends and family members were asking me if we were going to get engaged! So naturally I had it on my radar and was trying to get a read on him but he knew this of course and was throwing me off constantly. I really didn’t think it was going to happen.

So the day of our anniversary we were on our way out the door but had to turn around twice for different things we had forgotten! This put us back about an hour but it really didn’t matter. Turns out he only had one thing on his mind.. We had final arrived to the falls and it was so pretty! We decided to hike down to the river about a mile down. Once we were down by the river he was being so nonchalant asking what I wanted to do like he was ready to leave so I didn’t think anything was going to happen. Next he said he wanted to explore a bit so he started walking down the river farther and farther away. As I followed I was asking how far we were going to go! Finally he stopped where there was no one in sight. We hopped out onto a rock that was in the river a bit and just stood there taking in the beautiful scene. As we were standing there I felt him getting nervous and he started to tell me how much he loved me. As I started cluing in to what was happening my heart instantly started to race, and I couldn’t even concentrate on what he was saying. Suddenly he dropped down on one knee and he asked me to marry him! I instantly said YES and couldn’t stop the tears from falling. Laughing and crying all at once. I never felt happier than I did in that moment.

He asked my dad for permission and only told my mom and his parents and a couple close friends prior to asking, knowing it would be hard for everyone to keep the secret! He said he decided to propose to me on that day one year prior. And he chose the most beautiful ring to symbolize our love. And lucky for us we got to spend the next three days out of town in the most beautiful place to celebrate our post engagement bliss! He made me feel so special and loved, I will remember our engagement with such a huge smile. After knowing Sam for so long he continues to surprise me and makes me the happiest person in the world. I only hope to make him as happy as he makes me for the rest of our lives!
