How We Met

Zach and I met when we were 12 and 13 years old. We both played sports for the youth organization that my parents run. I used to walk laps around the field with my friends before practice and Zach has always said he remembers seeing me for the first time. I guess a few weeks went by and Zach texted me. I still remember, I was sitting on my front porch after getting my phone back from being grounded and had “hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii” sent from a random number. We started to talk about whatever 12 and 13-year-olds talk about, spent time together a few times, and started to date! Our families already knew each other because my step-father and Zach’s father coached Zach’s football team together. He was my first boyfriend, my first kiss, and my first love. We ended up going our separate ways when high school hit. But we never lost touch. We never went more than a couple of months checking in with each other or finding a reason to text one another.

How They Asked

Fast forward to 2017, I got a job that landed me having to go to the Naval Academy, where Zach attended college. He saw that I was there on my Snapchat story and messaged me and said, “Wait for what”. I just remember being so excited that he messaged me.

We ended up deciding to meet up a few days later, he walked me around the campus, and we caught up. It was like 8 or 9 years didn’t just fly by. I couldn’t stop looking at him. It didn’t take long before we realized that we were supposed to be together. Both of our moms have always said that we’d end up back together. At the perfect time, our lives realigned and everything felt right. I got to be with Zach and watch him play his last football season as QB at the United States Naval Academy and he was by my side during some of the toughest times of my life. We have made the best memories over these last few years and I swear that man is my very best friend. Now, we’re engaged, waiting for Zach to finish his first Officer training in the Marine Corps, and we’ll move this coming fall. Life is about to be crazy for us but in the best way. We can get through anything together and I seriously cannot wait to be Zach’s wife.
