How We Met
Josh and I grew up in a small town, Glasgow, Kentucky. Neither of us would probably like to admit, but we always had a “crush” on each other. We graduated and moved away from Glasgow to attend college. I went to the University of Kentucky and Josh attended Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. 4 years of undergrad had passed, we had had a few encounters but I was stubborn and never wanted to settle down in a long-term relationship. We both graduated, and I continued school at UK College of Pharmacy. I remember the exact night I was accepted to pharmacy school and Josh was one of the first people I sent a text message to let him know I had been accepted! He, as always, was so supportive and excited for me.
Fast forward about 6 months, I started pharmacy school and it was one of the most difficult stages of my life. Late night studying, long weekends full of exams, and not to mention countless hours of class. Josh and I lost touch for about a year. I can remember to the exact moment, leaving one of my hardest exams I had a text message on my phone from a number I was all too familiar with; Josh Crews. The text read, “I hope everything is going well, I’ve been thinking about you lately.” From being discouraged about a test, this message was almost like a sign from God; that I needed to let the one person who cared so much about me back into my life. We talked for several months, went on a few dinner dates, attended UK football games and finally, I realized how happy I was.
Josh and I endured some of the hardest times together and always came out on top. We bought our Golden Retriever puppy, Hank, I graduated pharmacy school, we got engaged, I passed my board exams, and got my first job as a licensed pharmacist: all within 6 MONTHS! It was a wild, crazy ride, but I couldn’t have been happier to do it with Josh by my side!
We both love to travel, attend UK sporting events, and spending time with our family and friends. Hank, our puppy, brings so much joy to our lives. I cannot wait to make this life official on September 21, 2019. Josh and I have made so many memories in the last 3 years and I am so excited to see what our future holds. Josh makes me laugh and smile every day. We don’t live a perfect life, but we make sure every adventure is worth living.
how they asked
Josh had planned a weekend trip to Lexington, Kentucky with all our friends. We had plans of dinner, Keeneland Horse Track on Saturday and of course, our favorite, brunch on Sunday before we all headed back our separate ways. We had friends coming from Bardstown, Lexington, and as far as Cleveland Ohio. To me, it was a typical weekend get together with all our friends. I never imagined the thought of an engagement because within the next few months I was graduating from pharmacy school, studying for board exams, and applying for pharmacist jobs. He knew I had too much going on to plan a wedding – or so I thought!
Friday, April 20th, 2018 I got a text from my mom asking to pick up a cookbook from a certain place in Lexington. I knew Josh and I were already pressed for time because we had dinner reservations with all our friends. My mom tried to play it off as it wasn’t a big deal if we weren’t able to get the book, but Josh being such a gentleman was determined to make my mom happy and get that darn cookbook!
So, we did. Josh and I pull into Henry Clay Estates in Lexington, Kentucky right before the bookstore “closed.” Josh “left his wallet in the car” so I had to run up to the front door, while he went back to the car. As I was walking up to the door I felt like something just wasn’t right. I became really nervous, and that’s when I saw a letter on the front door with my name on it.
All I could think was, “I need to get in there for this cookbook before they close”, but then the other voice in my head said, “Lauren, OPEN THAT NOTE!” I opened the noted, followed the directions, and found my soon-to-be fiance standing at the end of the long pathway in the garden at Henry Clay.
I was fighting back tears as I walked down because I couldn’t believe this was really happening. I had prayed for so long God would bring someone like Josh into my life. I knew God had his own plan and timing, I just had to trust it. When I finally let God in control, he paved out the most perfect path for Josh and I.
Josh asked me to be his wife, and I said yes! When I looked around, I saw our friends Ryan and Brittany Worthen filming the entire engagement. Brittany peeked her head over the bush and was jumping up and down with pure excitement. Again, I burst into tears because Josh always knew if I could have anyone film our story, it was ReelSpecial (Brittany and Ryan). We spent the next few moments in complete awe, taking pictures and reminiscing the entire day.
We headed to dinner, where ALL our family and friends were there to celebrate us. I was again in complete awe of this moment and everything Josh had done to plan the most perfect day/night for us. I knew at this moment God was in complete control. We are beyond thankful and blessed we get to do this life together.
