Lauren and Will
How We Met
We met about 4 years ago in an accounting class at Baylor University. I didn’t know him when I sat next to him the first day. Our professor even joked that we may be sitting next to our future spouse. That day he had received a message on LinkedIn from some former students that had just gotten engaged and met in his class. We became best friends immediately and started dating about a year and a half later. It couldn’t have worked out more perfect! He is still my best friend, and now he always will be :)
how they asked
I had never been out of the country, and Will has been wanting to take me to Paris for a while now. Once we started thinking about it, we got so excited we booked our trip within a week! We found an awesome deal online including flights and hotels over Labor Day. We packed our bags and off we went!! We arrived in Paris at 6:00 am local time. This day was BRUTAL. We had tried to sleep on the plane, but jet lag is a very real thing! We couldn’t check into our hotel until later that afternoon, so we dropped our bags at the front desk and proceeded to walk around the entire city. It was not at all what I expected, but the more we saw, the more I fell in love with Paris. One of our friends who had recently taken a trip to Paris booked a fun photo shoot with a photographer, so I thought it would be fun for Will and I to do! Little did I know, he went behind my back and contacted the photographer once I had our session booked.
Our photo shoot was scheduled for 8:00 am the next day. Will did not sleep AT ALL that night. He tossed and turned for hours, which of course resulted in me ALSO not getting any sleep (now I know why…) The next day we got up bright and earlier to meet Pierre. We met him under the bridge at Pont Bir Hakeim. Wow this spot was beautiful – this guy really knows what he’s doing!! The weather was very dreary and it had been sprinkling on our way over. I was really worried… I just knew my curled hair wasn’t going to last long in this!! We started taking pictures under the bridge while we waited for the rain to dissipate. One of the first pictures we took, I was hugging Will and felt something hard in his chest pocket.
He actually pretty aggressively pushed my hand away but of course I was still clueless. We took a few more shots here and then moved to a look-out point in front of the Eiffel Tower. It was so beautiful! Pierre started kicking the water on the ground (trying to clear a spot for Will to get down on one knee without getting completely soaked) and told me he was just trying to get a good reflection. I thought that was weird and there was no way he was going to get a reflection on this ground, but I still didn’t question it. Then, Pierre posed us standing across from each other holding hands and just smiling. I thought this photo would end up looking weird, but again, I didn’t question the expert!
This is when Will started talking, and honestly I couldn’t tell you now what he said. He got down on one knee, pulled the box out of his pocket and that’s about when I lost it.
It was all such a blur I really can’t remember what happened next. Turns out I never actually even said the word “Yes” so about five minutes later, he asked me again… I actually got it out that time.
We went back to the hotel, let our families know the big news, and then went to The Louvre. Just your typical day in Paris!!
