How We Met
We grew up in the same town and the same neighborhood. We went to different schools growing up until high school where we officially met on the bus home from Hopewell High School. We started dating when I was a sophomore and he was a junior and “the rest was history.”
But, not really. After he graduated, Tyler went to the University of North Carolina Wilmington for four years and after I graduated I went to the University of South Carolina, so five years of our relationship was long distance. After Tyler graduated from UNCW, he moved to Columbia while I finished school.
how they asked
My family has had season tickets to the Panther’s games since the team was born, so it is no secret that I am a huge fan and love spending Sundays at the stadium with my friends and family. Tyler made it so that his mom and sister were attending the game with us as well so it was a big family affair. At the 2 minute warning, Tyler nudged me and said his mom had got a different program when walking in from the rest of us. I took it and it looked the exact same on the front but at the bottom said “The Love Story of Lauren and Tyler.” I opened the program and inside were pages full of photos of us all the way from high school, until now. Ten years of photos. Then, Tyler pointed to the scrolling board in the stadium and up pops “Lauren McAlexander, Will You Marry Me?” The entire section was screaming and cheering, I look over at my family who is grinning ear to ear, and then back to Tyler who is on one knee.
Side note: The Panthers were down 10-0 to the Atlanta Falcons pre engagement, scored immediately after engagement, and came back to win 20-17 post engagement.
