How We Met
Sean and I met in a very unconventional way. I’m Canadian and worked for a Canadian software company. The Australian sales team was flown down to Canada’s head office in January 2016 for a training and my boss asked me to help show the Aussies around and get to know them better as my role worked directly with them. So that’s when I met Sean! We didn’t exactly hit it off at first (he took the piss a lot in typical Aussie fashion and I didn’t understand that he wasn’t ACTUALLY being mean to me), but by the end of the two weeks we were having lunch together almost every day and became good friends. When he went back to Sydney we stayed in touch and that’s when our relationship developed. So in a way we basically “internet dated” for the first bit of our relationship while we did long distance between Canada and Australia. About 6 months later, Sean flew to visit me for our first visit as an official couple. And 1 month later, I was on a one-way flight to Sydney!

How They Asked
Sean and I went to Melbourne to support his friends competing at the Arnold Expo (powerlifting competition). After an incredibly long day at the expo, we decided to go out for dinner. Sean had made a surprise reservation at a nice restaurant (and used his friend’s card to book it so I didn’t see the hold on our account) and I had no idea. I thought we were just walking into a restaurant. After two courses, we got the dessert platter to share and Sean said, “Should we get the waiter to come back to run through what eat dessert is again?” I said no and started eating.
He grabbed the waiter walking by and I thought he was going to ask him to run through the dessert platter and got a bit annoyed. He then hands my vlogging camera to the waiter and said, “It’s actually recording a video, just point.” I instantly knew it was happening. He clinked a wine glass to get the restaurant to look at us and then got down on one knee and said, “I don’t have a speech planned!” I was shaking and just in such shock, I couldn’t speak. I, of course, said yes, and then we stood up and both Sean and the waiter exclaimed, “She said yes!” and the whole restaurant started cheering and clapping.
