How We Met
Ryan and I have known each other for a while before we started dating. I believe our story is quite unforgettable. I was best friends with his sister prior to him and I dating. I always thought he was handsome but at the time I had a boyfriend and he had just got out of a long-term relationship. Long story short we all decided to go out one night and from that moment on we hit it off and the rest was history. But that’s not the best part. A year into dating our families finally met at his sister’s warming party. My grandmother started taking to Ryan’s mother. Ryan’s mother told m housey grandmother she recognized her bright blue eyes but couldn’t put the pieces together as to how.
As they continued to talk, turns out they have known each other for over 40 YEARS. My family and his family grew up in the same neighborhood in New York. My mother and his mother went to the same high school in Washington Heights. They grew up together, went to the same family parties, and even shared clothes that my grandmother would make them. My grandmother and my mom knew most of his mother’s family. Pictures of our family together years ago are mind-blowing and so unbelievable. We knew from that moment on it was faith. We were meant to be together. 40 years later living in Florida our families reconnected. Fast forward to 4 1/2 years later Ryan proposed.
How They Asked
It was the night before our housewarming party that we had already pushed back two times because of COVID. One of his best friends said he wasn’t able to make it to the party because of a last-minute trip to St. Augustine. So he asked Ryan if we could all met up on Friday the night before the housewarming party for a drink at the Boca Beach Club. Of course, we said yes, I was a little stressed because I wanted everything to be set up and perfect for the next day. As Ryan and I are pulling up to the beach resort he receives a text from his friend who we are supposed to be meeting “met us at the inlet it’s perfect out.” So Ry and I head over to the inlet. Approaching the beach Ryan turns and says that he loves me and drops down on one knee and explains how he wants to spend the rest of his life with me. It was absolutely perfect.
Ryan hates the beach but he knows that I love it! Heather a family friend of ours who happens to be a photographer was able to capture the whole moment. Ryan surprised me by having both our families at his brother’s house after for a celebration. Family is so important for both of us. My parents have been together for over 35 years and his parents have been together for over 44 years so we both cherish the idea of traditional marriage.
In this day and age, it’s extremely hard to find someone that shares the same values as you. Turns out our housewarming party was now an engagement party as well. Ryan had even bought me a few white dresses so that I could wear them to the party. How charming? It was remarkable. I felt entirely spoiled that entire weekend and can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my soulmate.
