How We Met: Reco and I were both ready to commit to a serious relationship and turned to online dating at the perfect time and place to meet each other! The crazy thing about online dating is that if you were to register for any other site, at any other time, you could miss your soulmate. God was watching over us and His true intention to have us cross paths finally happened!
After messaging and then texting for only one day, we decided that we had enough in common and were ready to meet for a first date. We agreed to go out for coffee (although I later found out that Reco doesn’t even drink coffee). He picked me up from my house and as we were driving, we spotted Chipotle! Two food lovers laying their eyes on Chipotle?! **Cue screeching tires** Needless to say, we made a pit stop and had our first date at Chipotle.
We sat there for hours, bonding over burrito bowls, talking about everything from our families, to our career goals, and even things we want in a future home (like a HUGE closet for all of my clothing and a HUGE garage for his cars and tools). Everything felt so natural! Reco dropped me off at my house, but made sure to sneak a little kiss on the cheek in the rain before letting me out of his sight. We both knew that night that this was the real deal!
Song of Solomon 3:4 “I have found the one whom my soul loves.”
how they asked: During the week, Reco nonchalantly told me that he scheduled me to get a manicure and pedicure on Saturday. How nice of him! His mom asked me if I would like to go to brunch with her on Sunday morning. None of this seemed out of the ordinary to me. His mom picked Jayden and me up and we headed to the Cheesecake Factory for brunch. When we got to brunch, she handed me a Macy’s bag and said, “Reco told me to give this to you.”
Inside was a new, white Michael Kors tote! I was so excited, and made the statement that Reco has been doing a lot of nice things recently. She said, “GIRL, he better always do nice things for you!” So, I didn’t think anything of it. Looking back on the next part of our day, I should have known something was up, but I still didn’t. She took us to Barnes and Noble, where she picked out a woman’s bible for me, and three books: “The Power of a Praying Parent,” “The Power of a Praying Wife,” and “The Power of a Praying Husband.”
We then got in her Cadillac and she called Onstar for directions to an address that sounded familiar, and I knew it was near our church. We pulled up to our church friend’s house. I walked in and looked around for Reco. He wasn’t there, but many families from our church family were there having a barbeque (which I later found out was all planned by Reco).
I expressed to one of my best friends, Leisha, that I was confused. I kept asking, “Where is Reco?” The question was ignored by all, and eating and talking ensued. Everytime the door opened, I quickly turned my head to see if it was him. Suddenly, a gift was placed in front of me with a tag on top. It said, “Go to this website.” I started reading the website and almost immediately began crying.
It was a website designed and created by my extremely intelligent and talented Reco about our story! I was in shock and shaking. At the bottom of the website was a Youtube video for me to watch. IT WAS RECO! I hadn’t seen him all day! I later had to watch the video again to remember what he actually said, but I got the main point: Meet me at the top of the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps (The Rocky Steps) at 4:30 sharp! I opened the gift to find a “Best Wife Ever” shirt and was quickly whisked out the door by his mom to race to the Art Museum. I was so nervous and cried the whole way there.
When we pulled up to the bottom of the steps, I realized there were A LOT of people there and got nervous that I wouldn’t be able to find him once I got to the top! His mom assured me that I would be able to find him and to “go get my man!” I climbed the steps, and at the top, overlooking the BEAUTIFUL Philadelphia skyline, Reco got down on one knee and proposed with a ring more gorgeous than I could ever imagine! Everyone around us cheered.
I then realized that he had photographers capturing the whole thing! Following the proposal, we had an engagement photo shoot (come on Reco, I didn’t know you were proposing! I would have worn something nicer and fixed my makeup before coming! Just kidding, it was perfect).
I think I was in shock for the first fifteen minutes of taking pictures. We celebrated by having dinner and dessert overlooking the Delaware River at Chart House.
Genesis 2:22-24 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman, ‘ for she was taken out of man.” 24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
