Lauren and Nick
How We Met
I always believed in fairytales and happy endings throughout my life, how two people can meet and their lives become intertwined by a beautiful connection. I’d heard of the concept of falling in love at first sight, however, our case was a tad different. I had recently broken up with my ex boyfriend and I was distraught, suffering from the post breakup I-don’t-know-how-to-function-as-a-single-person syndrome. In desperation, I tried getting back together with him and luckily the stars had a greater plan in store. as a fresh-faced 17 year old, my mother picked me up one day from his house, and my phone lit up with a friend request on Facebook. When I opened it, I felt something come over me, an intuition I’d never felt before. I’d never met this man before, nor did his photo load on my phone, but as soon as I saw his name, I knew he was the one. His photo loaded soon after, and I was like “SCORE!!!” Haha!!
I instantly introduced myself and we began chatting online for a few months before finally meeting in person. Our chemistry was undeniable, and my heart truly felt that it was right. We kissed for the first time that night, and the world stopped and stood against time. Only we existed in that moment. After dating for a few months, I asked Nick if he could assist me with a wedding I was photographing, to which he delightfully accepted. Watching his charm and knack for capturing gorgeous imagery, I daydreamed about what it would be like if one day in the future, we could be an epic wedding photographer duo. Now, 3 1/2 years later, we own Nick and Lauren Photography and document the most amazing love stories from all over the world. We’re super sappy people and working side by side as two artists with a passion for the work we create and the love we have for each other, our hearts are content and fulfilled in every single way. In our spare time aside from work, we love to create for ourselves through self-portrait imagery, constantly brainstorming and playing with new ideas.
how they asked
Almost 3 years ago, Nick and I traveled to Savannah GA for his 25th birthday, a beautiful historic city that is dear to our hearts. On our last day, we were strolling around a graveyard and taking photos, when a homeless man came up to as and offered us a palmetto rose. We began to chat with the man, and he began to ask us questions, such as “how long have you been together,” “do you plan on staying together for a long time,” questions I was eager to hear him answer. Nick took the rose and the man had us exchange words to each other, and he kept saying that I was going to be the Queen of his life. After a few minutes, he had us kiss and Nick handed me the rose, and the man told us that I was now the Queen of his life and that he was a traveling pastor. We looked at each other and shouted “DID WE JUST GET MARRIED?!”
Once the man walked away, our conversation went a little like this: Me: “Oh my god, what just happened?! Was that real?!” Nick: “I know! That was so crazy!” Me: “So what, are we, like, married now?” Nick: “Well….I don’t know about you, but that’s what I want.” Me: “Really?!” Nick: “Yes!” Me: “Me too!” Nick: “Alright we’re married then!”
We consider that to be the story of our pre-engagement and our spiritual marriage. It was on the day of his birthday, so we remember and celebrate it every year. At the end of March, Nick and I stayed at the gorgeous Gaylord Palms in Orlando, Fl. I’m a huge Beauty and the Beast fan, and we decided to book a room and have a fancy date night to celebrate! He had dropped so many hints that something was up, so my suspicion was at an all-time high. We’d been there for two days and nothing had happened, so I convinced myself that I was just being silly and didn’t want to set myself up for disappointment.
After the movie (and a whole lot of tears because BEAUTY AND THE BEAST), we skipped out on our planned crepe dinner and picked up some chick-fil-a, and headed back to the hotel for some cuddle time. As we were chatting about Disney movies and wonderful things, we stopped in front of our room and he told me to close my eyes while he opened the door. As he guided me into the room, I clenched onto his arm tightly. Everything in the room was on the left side, and as he was on my left, when I opened my eyes, all I could see were our friends Brittani and Jon with their cameras!
Confused at what was going on, I was like “hi guys! What are you doing here?” My eyes wandered to what was set on the bed, a magnificent silver dome I had purchased around the announcement of the movie, which I wanted to use as a prop for a Belle shoot I wanted to use (which I didn’t end up using because he had come to my house and snatched it up without me knowing HAHAHA!) And in the dome, was the palmetto rose that we had been given in Savannah. And on that rose, was the most beautiful ring I’d ever seen. Swept up in mushy gushy emotions by the man I call the love of my life, he asked me the question my soul had longed to hear. I cried a thousand times yes. I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing happily ever after.
