How We Met
Keefer and I met in junior year of high school when we were both 16. I was looking for a prom date and asked one of my friends if they knew of anyone I should talk to and they mentioned Keefer. I made the first move and texted him just to see if I would even like talking to this guy and I was instantly hooked. Now I’m not going to say it was love at first text, but I certainly realized that he was more than just a prom date. We talked all night and then around noon the next day I decided to text him again to make sure he knew I was interested. AND HE REPLIED!!!
We quickly decided that we should go on a date on Thursday of that week since we had a half day of school. We talked everyday until Thursday and I was so excited that I could hardly contain myself! When Thursday rolled around I had to wait until 1:15pm for this date to happen. Keefer picked me up from school and in the passenger seat of his car was the most beautiful arrangement of flowers I have ever seen. I knew then that this guy was amazing.
(This is Keefer and I walking to his car to go on our first date). We went to TGI Friday’s for lunch and had chicken fingers and french fries. We were the only people in the restaurant and we sat and talked until 4pm when I had to be rushed home so I could get to dress rehearsal for my dance recital. I never thought that a guy as sweet as Keefer could come into my life and it was such perfect timing. Keefer came to my dance recital on Saturday of that first week where he met my family and I’m so glad he did! A relationship was not even on my mind at that point but I made the best decision ever by texting Keefer that day. He asked me to prom and to be his girlfriend! We have now been together since April 11, 2013.

how they asked
On the day of what I was to later find out would be our engagement I was scheduled to get some dental work done. I had a numb mouth for the majority of the day and was overall feeling terrible. Keefer and I were scheduled to go on a vacation to Chincoteague Island for a few days. We decided to drive to my parents house of the Rappahannock River in Dunnsville, Virginia. Once we arrived, I promptly went upstairs to take a nap that ended up being 4 hours long. When I woke up it was around 5pm and I was extremely hungry. I asked Keefer if he could make me a pizza and he said that we should wait to eat until a more reasonable hour… I should have known he was up to something because we frequently eat dinner at 4:30pm!
Some time passed and I was getting more and more “hangry” , and he finally told me that his best friend, Jordan, and his girl friend, Ashley, were coming to stay at the river with us and therefore we needed to wait for them to eat dinner. This fact made me so irritated because I was not feeling well and was being denied dinner. I started to cry because I was so frustrated with the situation and then Keefer told me that everything was going to be okay and that we would eat soon enough.
When Jordan and Ashley arrived they were in nice clothes and asked if we would like to go out to eat. After some convincing from Keefer I agreed and went upstairs to get ready. Little did I know that Jordan and Ashley had snuck down to the beach to prepare. After I was done getting ready I was very confused as to where Jordan and Ashley had gone. Keefer suggested that we walk to the beach to find them and so we did.
We were having a normal conversation on the way to the beach and I suspected nothing. Once we got closer to the pier I saw a shimmering light that was definitely out of place and started to wonder what it could be and then Keefer squeezed my hand and I instantly knew what was happening.
When we got to the pier I saw that there were paper bags that spelled out “Marry Me?” and I instantly started to cry.
Keefer got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife and I of course said yes!
After the initial shock wore off, Keefer led me into the sand to look at all of the bags because they all said something that he loved about me. It was so amazing and I couldn’t believe that I was finally getting engaged to my best friend!
Jordan and Keefer started to clean up the bags on the beach and Ashley and I went up to the house to freshen up before going to dinner. Well, it took the guys longer than expected to clean up and by this time it was 10pm and so I called off going to dinner and we ordered pizza instead. Even though it was an extremely long day, it was beyond worth it!
