How We Met
We met back in high school, yes we’re high school sweethearts! Although we had known of each other since freshman year, we never connected until senior year. He commented on one of my Instagram posts (thank you social media) and we started messaging. He asked me to meet him for lunch at Jersey Mike’s and I went (thanks to my best friend for practically forcing me to go lol). Some time passed and we went on a few dates. On January 17, 2014, he took me on a romantic gondola ride in Coronado and officially asked me to be his girlfriend.
How They Asked
Justin told me he had a work dinner that we both needed to attend on May 16, 2020. I didn’t think anything of it at the time. We headed up to San Marcos and when we arrived at the Lakehouse Hotel & Resort, he told me we had some time to kill before dinner, so he set up a gondola ride around the lake (I know, so cute that it tied back to when he asked me to be his girlfriend).
I was confused but went with it. We went boarded the gondola and cruised around for a bit before stopping on a little island to “take pictures”. When we got on the island, there were rose petals and a ring box in a dish – this was the moment it hit me.
I instantly starting crying and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. All I remember is saying “YES” and being in shock that this was all happening. I didn’t realize at first, but he had a photographer taking pictures of us the whole time and she was able to capture all the incredible moments. It was perfect.
But what made it even more perfect was that he had the ring box sitting in blue roses. My dad passed away almost 3 years ago and it was the biggest shock and heartbreak for my family. His favorite color was blue and we always symbolize him with blue things. I broke down in tears who I made the connection in my head – Justin really thought of every little detail.
We boarded a boat back to the shore and he took me on a walk around the resort before stopping at one of the hotel cottages. When I walked in, I was surprised by all our closest family and friends. He had planned a little engagement party for us -food, drinks, decorations…it was a literal dream. I couldn’t have asked for a more special and meaningful proposal – he literally thought of everything.
