How They Met: At the ages of 13 & 15 on Halloween in 2004. Lauren went to Jovanni’s house for the first time to go trick or treating with his sister. He was standing at the top of the stairs when she walked in and he claims his mouth dropped when he saw her. He told the rest of the family he had to meet her because she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. They were an “item” a few months later and have been together since January 8, 2005 – dating all through High School and College (Go UConn Huskies!). When they get married next summer they will have been dating for 11 years, 7 months & 12 days.
how they asked: When Jovanni suggested the two of them take a trip to Miami, Lauren thought nothing of it – the two of them had been on multiple vacations together and shared a love of travel (especially to places with good restaurants)! On the second day of their trip Jovanni suggested the two of them get dressed for their big dinner at Prime 112 early in the day. They walked out of the hotel to a car waiting for them and got in – Lauren had no idea where she was being driven to. The car stopped at a marina alongside the dock.
Jovanni began walking to a gentleman who was standing there, apparently waiting for them. He welcomed the two of them onto his sailboat for their tour. Jovanni and Lauren were the only two guests on this sailboat and when he saw Lauren’s face he exclaimed, “Isn’t this great? I found this tour on Groupon!” The couple on the boat began their tour of the Miami Skyline as the sun was setting. They then asked Jovanni and Lauren if it would be okay to take photographs of them for their website. As the photos began, it was suggested Lauren stand at the front of the boat for a photo-op. She walked towards the edge and as she turned back around to face the camera, she was met by Jovanni – on one knee.
He held up a diamond ring in his hand that sparkled in the setting sunlight. He smiled and said “You are the most important person in my life and I can’t imagine my future without you. I love you more than anything in this world. Lauren Ann Elizabeth DiLoreto, will you marry me?” — YES! (and after a lot of crying & kissing, he said “Sorry, but we’re not going to Prime 112 for dinner..” I replied that I figured that and laughed.. and he added “because we’re eating Prime 112 on here!” – we enjoyed champagne and a beautiful dinner on the sailboat watching the sunset).
