How We Met
For as long as I can remember, I have dreamed of finding “the one” and getting married. I couldn’t wait to start my life with someone. I always wanted to meet my future husband in a traditional way – no online dating, no apps. So one day when my mom told me she had someone she wanted me to meet, I begrudgingly agreed thinking, “things are really getting bad if my mom is needing to set me up!”. Little did I know, the boy she wanted me to meet would be my future husband. He’d just moved to my hometown to take a golf professional job at our local country club. My parents are avid golfers so they met and loved Jeremy before I even knew his name. Having the blessing of both my parents before our first date sealed the deal for the start of our romantic journey.
how they asked
About two months before Jeremy proposed, my dad suddenly passed away, and Jeremy never got the chance to ask him for his permission in person. At the celebration of my dad’s life, however, Jeremy was able to pray over him, so he asked my dad to send him a signal that he had his blessing of our marriage. The next day, my brother pulled Jeremy aside to reassure him the love my dad saw in both of us, and he told him that he had the blessing of the family to ask for my hand in marriage. Talk about a sign!
So on April 14, 2016, Jeremy surprised me at my parents’ house after work. Thinking that it was going to be a normal day of ice cream and hikes, I went along for the ride. As we walked down the trails behind the house, we came to wooden signs with “Lala, will you marry me?” carved into them (Lala is what my nieces and nephews call me). To my shock and happy surprise, I said yes! He surprised me even more with having a photographer capture our special moment.
