How We Met
It all started with two strangers, in an A&W getting root beer floats. Root beer floats are, undoubtedly, my kryptonite. I have just moved to the area and had searched the one closest to my location and off I went! James was behind me in a slow moving line and he asked me how my day was going. It had not been the best day, and I was (apparently noticeably) a tad irritated. Little did I know that he was about to turn my bad day around. After some introductions and a little bit of small talk, James asked if he could buy my root beer float on the condition I sit with him while we finished them. Now normally, I am NOT a spontaneous person. However, something about James stuck out so I went against my norm and agreed. We sat at that A&W for about an hour until we were forced to leave when they started mopping the floor. James and I were not done exploring our new found connection, so we decided to take our conversation to the brewery that was down the road. We stayed that entire night talking and getting to know each other. There were so many laughs and not a second of awkward silence. After that, we were inseparable. During our A&W conversation, we learned that we lived within a mile of one another! We did not spend one day apart for the next two weeks… I will never look at an A&W the same!!
how they asked
Fast forward through one year full of multiple stories and memories, to our engagement day. After three weeks of traveling for work, we woke up to our first day off together in about a month. James suggested we go to the nearby waterfalls before they freeze over for the winter. I, of course, say it is too cold and would HIGHLY prefer to stay home cuddled up instead. What a mistake that would have been! He of course persuaded me otherwise, and a couple hours later off to the falls we went. We were all bundled up for the brisk, 10 degree, cloudy Minnesota day. Once we arrived, we were enamored by the gorgeous falls splashing to create a mist that frosted over the greenery trying to endure. It was a spectacular sight from above, but James was eager to head down to the base of the beauty below. There was frost all around the sides of the falls and it looked like a winter wonderland! Little did I know, James had this all planned out and had a photographer/videographer friend of his following us the entire time. When we got to the bridge at the bottom of the falls, we chatted for a few minutes and when I went up to take a picture, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Bearing the cold has never been more worth it!! And coming from a freeze baby, that is definitely saying something. After I said yes, he introduced me to his friend who had been taking pictures and suggested we take some post proposal engagement photos. I was still in total shock, but it was so much fun to be able to celebrate and capture the moment instantly. After warming up in the car and calling our parents, we then drove to the place it all started and had ourselves an A&W, root beer float. It was an absolutely perfect day!!
