How We Met
James and I met during our first month of freshman year at UMASS Amherst. We both had recently ended long term relationships and were looking forward to the experiences that come with college life. Neither of us suspected we would meet our soulmate in a few weeks. At first glance, we could not be more different; I am a city girl with a love of Lady Gaga, ice cream, and shoes and James is a country boy from Massachusetts who likes to work on cars and spend time outdoors.
Our two worlds collided one night at the dining hall, both of us obviously having a mutual love of food. I saw James and was immediately drawn to him. After dinner, I asked James to come to my dorm to help me open an old, stuck window. James didn’t just open my broken window, but he opened the window to my heart. That night I called my mom and told her, “I just met the man I’m going to marry!”
how they asked
After almost eight years together and countless drives between Massachusetts, New York and Canada, on September 9, 2017, we got engaged! Although I had an idea it was coming, as I knew he had asked my parents for their blessing the month before, I didn’t know how he would pop the question. Little did I know that during one of his visits to Prince Edward Island, Canada where I am attending veterinary school, James had set up the surprise of a lifetime.
James and I pulled up to the Point Prim lighthouse for what I thought was a casual dinner at one of our favorite restaurants on the island, The Chowder House. When we walked over, I finally saw the surprise I had been waiting eight years for. Under the lighthouse, overlooking the ocean, Caley, a photographer James had been working closely with and hired to capture our special moment, set up a lobster trap adorned with sunflowers, champagne, and stones from the beach asking the question “Marry Me?” I of course, said YES!
