how we met
Ian and I are both competitive sailors. Ian moved home from college and started crewing on the same boat that I had been sailing on. We became friends as crew, enjoyed each other’s company, and began hanging out outside of sailing more and more.

how they asked
Ian proposed on Maui during our annual weekend trip to the PGA’s Sentry Tournament of Champions. It was my birthday weekend and I was not expecting anything other than champagne, cake, golf, whales, and sunsets. His plan was to propose on Friday, Jan 3rd at sunset. Our flight into Kapalua was cancelled due to high winds; we were then re-routed into Kahului, and missed the sunset. He aborted the Friday proposal, messaged all the involved individuals, and proceeded with plan B. Saturday morning, Jan 4th, we woke up early to order room service, so that we could be on our way to the golf tournament by mid-morning. In our pajamas, we ate breakfast and drank champagne on the lanai. It was the perfect birthday morning; sunny, blue skies, whales breaching all around. Ian asked me how long we have been dating, and I replied that it has been a fun 3.5 years. He quickly and casually went from his chair to one knee and asked about making it forever. Super surprising, simple, and sweet!
