Lauren and Eric

How We Met

Though we grew up just two miles apart, Eric and I never met until freshman orientation at UNC-Chapel Hill over five and a half years ago. Because our love story began in Chapel Hill, it is only fitting that he brought me back to propose five years later. While we absolutely love UNC, life had different plans, and following our graduation we moved to Winston Salem where we both attend law school at Wake Forest University. While we may have physically moved away, Chapel Hill has, and always will have, a special place in our hearts. Chapel Hill is where we met, where we fell in love, and where he asked me to be his wife.

how they asked

On December 20th my sister, who currently attends UNC, turned 21. Though we celebrated her birthday at midnight on the 20th, Eric and my sister formed a plot to get me to Chapel Hill for an evening of bar hopping and birthday fun. On December 22nd, we set off to Chapel Hill, where I believed we would continue to celebrate my sister’s birthday and would spend the night at her house. When we arrived, we did all of the traditional UNC things that we had missed so dearly. We walked Franklin Street, shopped at Johnny T-Shirt, had lunch at Suttons, and continued on to take pictures at the Old Well and around campus.

Of course my sister and I took pictures together as I had not been back in far too long. Because they both know me so well, they knew I would ask to get a photo with Eric next. Before I knew it, he was down on one knee. I could not believe what was happening and was absolutely speechless as I began to tear up. It was perfect and beautiful. Eric later admitted that he too was left without words as the moment finally arrived and that he had forgotten every word that he had planned to say.

Afterwards, he swept me off to reveal that we were actually staying at the Carolina Inn, a UNC staple. We spent the evening celebrating on Franklin Street, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
