how we met
Our story began 16 years ago, when we were 5th graders in middle school (the school we currently both teach at). We became close friends in 6th grade, when we were in the same homeroom class. Our friendship continued to grow throughout middle school. We decided to “date” in 8th grade and Carl became my first kiss. However, before high school, we decided to just be friends. We remained close friends all throughout high school. We had the same close-knit friend group, we attended each other’s sporting events, assisted each other with homework assignments (Lauren did the homework for Carl), and even had our high school graduation party together. Throughout our college years, we stayed best friends. We would visit each other at the colleges we attended and spend time with our friends together. Fast forward to the summer of 2017 when Carl asked me out on our first date since 8th grade. I was unsure at first, because I didn’t want our friendship that we had built be tarnished. I ended up agreeing and we have been together ever since. In each other we have found our best friend and the love of our lives.
how they asked
On April 20th, 2019 Carl said that he wanted to take me out to dinner for getting a new job. I didn’t think much of it, because Carl love’s celebrating our accomplishments. It was around 3 in the afternoon, and I started to get ready for our dinner at 5. I had put on wedges with my outfit when Carl suggested that I change because it made me look taller than him. I immediately began to question him because he usually didn’t care what I wore. I thought that Carl was being strange throughout the whole evening; while we got ready and when we arrived at dinner. Before we even ordered, Carl sat a jewelry box down on the table. I thought to myself, “is this really happening”. When I opened the box, I saw a pair of earnings. He explained that they were for my new job. I appreciated his gift and kind gestures, but couldn’t help but think that it was strange that he did all of this for a job change. After dinner, Carl suggested that we go for a walk. I began to argue with him because I was dressed nicely and didn’t have walking shoes on. I then found out that he brought a change of shoes for me. We walked the path that we often do when we have free time together. On our walk, Carl pointed out an Easter Egg. I picked up the egg and it had a note inside that said, “I love you”. I found a second egg that said, “You are my best friend”. The last one said, “Will you marry me?” When I turned around Carl was on one knee. He asked me to marry him and I of course said yes. He had a photographer there that took pictures of the entire thing. Afterwards, we went back to our house where some of our closest friends and family were waiting for us. He literally thought of everything. It was our perfect engagement.
