Laura and Travis
How We Met
It all started when we were about 10 years old when we became next door neighbors. Travis was three years older than me and always the “cute neighbor boy” that I was too scared to talk to. In high school, I was on the dance team, and he was the goalie for the hockey team. I thought he was SO handsome with his long, blonde, curly locks and his stellar hockey skills. I was always too nervous to talk to him and so we never really hung out growing up. We both went to college and life went on. I assumed I would never really get to know this Andries boy. My senior year of college rolled around and I was home for Christmas break. I was watching (okay it was an excuse to drink wine) the Viking/Packer game with my girlfriends and we had decided to go downtown to the only bar that was open on a Sunday night in our small town. I was just about to head out after a fun, casual night of catching up with my closest girlfriends when somebody walked right into me and completely spilt their beer all down the front of me.
I was so flustered and aggregated until I realized who it was. That cute neighbor and awesome goalie hockey player had completely run into me! The first thing he said to me was “hi neighbor!”. That was the first time we had exchanged words and a week later he asked if I wanted to get together. I was home from college for two more weeks and thought, “what’s there to lose.” We ended up hanging out for two weeks straight until I went back to college. We both agreed we didn’t want any sort of relationship, but we couldn’t quit talking or stand being away from one another. A month later we began dating. We had a long distance relationship for a year and a half until moving to the same city and really beginning our life together as a couple.
how they asked
This past Christmas Eve eve was four years together. We were at his sisters and just after dinner and gifts, he got down on one knee (while the nieces and nephews were running around in the background, there was a Wild hockey game on TV, and some people were eating dinner) and asked me to make him the happiest man alive and we spent the rest of the night celebrating with our family that we are going to be husband and wife!
