How We Met
Tyler and I met in college. My roommate was dating his roommate so we spent a handful of nights at the same parties and both had feelings for each other. I just didn’t like him as much as he liked me (a fun fact that he still reminds me of to this day). Fast forward about 6 years, and one Facebook message conversation later, we had our first “real” date at a retaurant/bar for a Boston Bruins playoff game, and I instantly adored him. Tyler soon became the second most important love in my life, only a slight margin behind my two year old black lab named Neely. He moved in with us about a year later, and both Neely and I have never been happier. Tyler is, by far, the most amazing man I have ever known. He’s kind, patient, thoughtful, incredibly handsome, and most importantly, he treats Neely as just as much of a human child as I do.
how they asked
I had been looking forward to the last weekend in January for weeks, simply because it was the only one where we weren’t incredibly busy with plans. Saturday morning, my best friend Gina and I had our regular “girlfriend date” to sit at Barnes & Noble, drink coffee, gossip & read magazines. She picked me up at the house so she could “come in and visit with Neely after”. Tyler was strangely pacing around the house cleaning everything in sight, which I appreciated but also found strange and annoying.
Gina drove me home after our date and followed me in the house. It was quiet, too quiet, and Neely didn’t come running to the door. I immediately saw white rose petals all over the hallway floor (which I really didn’t understand at first, because Tyler was vacuuming like a madman when I left). I followed the rose petals, and paw print stickers, into the living room. Gina was behind me, ready with her camera (she had known about this plan for weeks). There was a large heart made of petals in the center, with Tyler on one knee, and Neely sitting in a tuxedo with a sign around his neck. The sign read, “Mom, can Ty be my dad, officially?”
From that point on, I couldn’t tell you what happened! Tyler told me how long he’s loved me for, and asked me to marry him. I’m 99% sure I physically said the word yes. And then he pulled out the most beautiful ring I have ever seen in my life, and the three of us went on to spend the rest of the day telling friends & family.
