Laura and Michael
How We Met
People often say that you find love when you least expect it. Mike and I met through our family’s and we’ve known each other for a long time. We would see each other at company events (our dad’s worked together) or would like each other’s posts on Facebook. The relationship was strictly platonic, mainly because mike was a few years older than me.
Fast forward to 2015. I was 2 years out of college and had recently moved into my first apartment. I was getting ready to travel to Europe for a few weeks and was adjusting to life on my own, as an adult. I happened to log on to Facebook one day and saw a message from Mike. We started chatting and made plans to meet for a drink before I left for Europe. I honestly thought nothing of our interaction but was flattered by his interest in getting to know me. I left for Europe a few days later and we chatted sporadically during my time abroad. After two weeks away I was eager to get home and mike and I made plans to see each other when I was back in the US. I woke up that morning excited to get back to my normal routine. But little did I know that my life was going to change in so many ways…
when I was on my way to the airport I was in an extremely bad car accident. In fact, the accident was so bad that the police said I was lucky to have survived the crash. I spent a day in the hospital with some pretty serious injuries before I forced myself to fly back to the United States where so I could be seen and treated by Us doctors. I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I got home but I knew that I had a long and painful road to recovery.
When I first told Mike about the accident he thought I was joking.. or trying to find a way to cancel our upcoming plans. He quickly realized the extent of my injuries and stepped in to be my strength during the darkest times. After I arrived back in the US I told Mike that I didn’t expect him to stick around given my long road to recovery. However, mike never waivered. Instead, he spent the next 18 months reminding me every single day how beautiful I am. He stood by my side through four surgeries, countless breakdowns and a bout with anxiety and depression. Mike is and was my saving grace and is the reason I am here today. I’ve never met a more loving, caring, and loyal human being and I am thankful every day that he is in my life.
how they asked
I used to lay in bed every night and pray to god that he would bring the right person into my life… Someone who would be my soulmate, my best friend the husband and father to my children. It’s true that the Lord works in mysterious ways and I am so unbelievably grateful that I was given someone as wonderful as Mike. The day Mike asked me to marry him was the best day of my life.. and the easiest question I’ve ever answered.
In our apartment, with a room full of roses, he got down on one knee and told me that I was the strongest person he had ever met and he couldn’t imagine his life without me in it. After the proposal, we went to dinner in town and then spent the weekend celebrating with friends and family.
