How We Met
If you ask any one of my closest friends I am one of the girliest, most hopeless romantic people you may ever meet. I always envisioned meeting the man of my dreams somewhere along the way to college, but never imagined that he had always been only 15 miles away from my hometown.
I was 18 years old and a senior in high school and Louie was 19 years old and taking a year off from college due to medical reasons. In December of 2012, I went on a trip to London for a cheerleading trip and that’s where I met Louie’s sister, Mia. Mia is honestly the reason I even met Louie in the first place. After hanging out for a couple of weeks she started pushing me to talk to her brother (Louie). I thought it was a crazy idea because I was her friend and her parents were going to think I was crazy lol. Later on, I found out she was telling Louie the exact same thing, to ask me out on a date. One night before I headed home from their house, Louie’s mom asked if he could make sure I got home safely since we lived in different towns. He followed me all the way home, and he got off his jeep. Of course, by this time I had butterflies in my stomach because I wasn’t expecting him to follow me all the way home. That night, on March 6th, he asked me out on a date to the movies and I said yes.
About a week later we went out on our first date. Let me just say our first date, in my eyes, was PERFECT and more than I could have ever imagined. We went out to eat dinner in Eagle Pass, watched a movie, and then afterward we went to the park and talked for about 2 hours. After that, we ended the night star gazing which then became one of our favorite things to do.
After our first date, we made many great memories together from going out dancing to Spurs games to a surprise last dance after my senior prom (He didn’t go with me to prom I went with one of my friends since I didn’t want him to feel weird with HS kids lol). He knew how to make me smile and how to make me feel so special.
Needless to say, we fell in love that summer, after I graduated high school. I was nervous when we both started up at school. I was in Austin at UT and he was in Waco attending Baylor University. We made it through 4 years of a long distance relationship and enjoyed every moment we had together whether it was binge watching Game of Thrones or going out dancing. He always reminded me how much he cared about me by being my alarm clock to make sure I woke up from my naps to go to class or even just surprise me with some Tiffs Treats and some pizza! He definitely knew the way to my heart, sweets, and pizza. Fast forward to 6 years later and we are getting MARRIED!
How They Asked
This was a complete surprise for me! I love Christmas and I love going to see Christmas lights so we planned a trip to Gruene, Texas for my 24th birthday to see the town lighting. I was so excited to go to Gruene and celebrate my birthday looking at Christmas lights. Earlier in the week, we had arranged for my mom and sister to come into town for my birthday. Once they arrived in town, we drove on over to Gruene. We took some pictures and walked around until “Cowboy Kringle” rode in on his horse to turn on the Christmas lights. By this time I was just so excited to see all the lights on. We took some pictures with my mom and my sister and my friend Jolyn (who I found out was part of the surprise and I wasn’t supposed to see her until after Louie had proposed). Lol but anyways I believed she was there to show her brother and her friend the Christmas lights.
We kept walking around and taking pictures until we stopped at one tree that was covered in Christmas lights. My mom, Louie, and I got ready to take a picture together while my sister was taking our picture (*wink wink* a video). Up to this point, Louie started acting a little suspicious so I started to wonder what was happening. In my mind, I was thinking “oh maybe it’s a surprise party” lol, but little did I know it was better than a surprise party. So as we are “taking the picture” my mom turns me around and gives me one of my favorite flowers that she said she forgot to give me earlier.
At that point, I still had no idea that when I turned around my best friend would be asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. When I saw Louie on his knee, all I could think about was how blessed I was to be able to say yes to spending the rest of my life with the man of my dreams. Of course, Louie had me in tears as he told me how much he loved me and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me.
I hadn’t even realized that all these people had gathered around to see what was happening and had even started clapping after he had proposed. I was totally surprised and couldn’t help but just smile and look down at the most beautiful ring I had ever seen (he spilled the beans that he got a hold of my Pinterest pictures of engagement rings lol). I was so happy my mom and sister were there to help with the surprise.
And to top it off, Louie had even invited some of my best friends to be there on such a special day.
We even had a sweet engagement dinner that same night with my mom, sister, my best friends, and Louie’s family. Honestly, I don’t know if any other birthday can top my 24th birthday. I received one of the greatest gifts!
