How We Met
Nate and I met at our job in the summer of 2014. I walked in for my interview and sat waiting for the manager. When I saw him walk out, my heart skipped a beat. He was the most handsome man I had ever seen. He walked over and shook my hand and told me he would be with me in a moment. I thought to myself there is no way he is the manager. He was about my age, super tall, and SO handsome. This made me even more nervous for my interview with him. Of course, he hired me for the job and we spent the summer getting to know each other. We finally started dating when the summer was over and we went back to school. He was a senior and I was a junior at different universities two hours apart, but we saw each other every weekend (even if it meant waking up at 5am to get to class on time). On our first date we went to church together, and when I saw his love for Jesus, I think I fell for him right then! We did absolutely everything together from then on. From Tim McGraw & Darius Rucker concerts, to trips to Chicago, to midnight runs to get McFlurries, there is nothing but fun and laughter when we’re together.
Our biggest adventure came in the summer of 2015 when we both ended up in Greenville, South Carolina.
how they asked
I was visiting Nate in Greenville during my senior year winter break. Our good friends came down to stay with us for a few days at the end of December to celebrate the new year together. Little did I know, they were all part of a very well thought out plan. On New Year’s Eve we all had plans to go out to a nice dinner downtown Greenville, but right before dinner we took pictures by the Reedy River. This surprised me as Nate hates taking pictures most of the time. We were all dressed up for dinner and walking by the river when Nate picks out a certain rock he wants to hike down to get a picture on. I thought there was no way I was getting down there without breaking an ankle in my high heels, but he was persistent. So with his help, we made it down to the rock with the perfect scenery and sunset for our friends to take a picture. But instead of posing for the photo, he started talking about our relationship. Then he said to me, “Remember the first time we were here together and I told you we would be together forever? Well I meant it.” He then pointed to his roommate standing up on the bridge frantically waving at me. When I looked back at Nate he was down on one knee, holding the most stunning ring I have ever seen (that he designed himself), asking me to marry him! Surprised and without thinking I blurted out “Tater Gross!” (a goofy nickname I call him), and then obviously said yes! I later found out that he had been holding on to the ring for months until this night and it took a lot of meticulous planning to get it here without me finding it. I am so happy that I said yes to forever with my best friend and I can’t wait to be Mrs. Gross!
