How We Met
I met Paul on the first day of law school. I had gone straight through from undergrad, while he had taken a couple years off. Going into my first class, I was nervous so I sat towards the back. Our professor made us fill in a seating chart so the seats we picked would be ours for the entire semester.
As I was filling out the chart, Paul showed up and asked if anyone was sitting in the empty seat next to me. Of course, I said he could sit there, and we were stuck for the semester.
Over the course of the next week, we somehow ended up talking about horoscopes, and I found out he was a Pisces too! I asked what his birthday was, and he replied “March 15.” From that moment I knew- because that’s my birthday too!
It was like someone upstairs was giving us a hint that we were meant to be together. Shortly after that, we started “officially” dating, and we’ve been happily together for the last four years. From law school in Syracuse, to moving to D.C. together with our two dogs, these have easily been some of the best years of my life!
how they asked
We were in Paul’s hometown in Long Island visiting his family for Thanksgiving. The Saturday after Thanksgiving was a beautiful day- 55 degrees and sunny.
Paul said we had to do something outside because it was the last “perfect fall day of the season.” (Fall is my absolute favorite season!) So, we headed to Planting Fields Arboretum by his parents house, and he was right- the weather was absolutely perfect!
We walked all over the property and Paul kept asking me questions about things we had done in our relationship (what my favorite trip we had taken together was, what my favorite moment with each of our dogs was…). He then suggested we put our camera on self timer and take a picture together because the view was beautiful!
We use the self timer often, so I thought nothing of it as he was setting up the camera. He then asked me what my favorite moment of our relationship was, and I mentioned a time we were alone on a beach in the carribean. He then said “do you know what mine is?” I asked him “what??” He clicked the self timer button on the camera and came running over to me. “It’s right now!” he said, as he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was perfect!
