How We Met
Cole and I met in the 8th grade. We were in the same friend group, but I never saw him as anything more than a friend. Growing up, I was focused on volleyball and my friends. Our freshman year he asked me to Homecoming and I declined his invitation because I had a volleyball tournament that weekend. Little did I know, he would hold that against me for 5 years. I ended up moving away, but we kept in touch through social media. Thank goodness for Snapchat, because that’s how we reconnected! We met up 5 years later just to catch up over lunch, and that ended up turning into so much more than I ever expected. We started dating while I lived in Dallas and he lived in Norman, Oklahoma. We were in a long distance relationship for 4 years. It’s true what they say, “distance makes the heart grow fonder.” So many hours spent on the road during those years, but they were so worth it. And the rest is history!
how they asked
Cole and I have been dating for 5 years now and have been blessed with traveling to a lot of places together. This year, Cole’s family invited me to go on vacation with them to Italy. How could I say no to a trip like that?! While on the trip, we would celebrate Cole’s Grandpa’s 80th birthday with all of the DeKinder family. In honor of his birthday, Cole’s mom scheduled family pictures in Florence and asked me to be apart of them. Cole and I were the last to take pictures.
I had no idea what Cole had up his sleeve! He surprised me by getting down on one knee and asked me if I would love him forever!♥ I said YES! It was more perfect than I had ever imagined…I don’t think I could have fathomed more perfect proposal!
