How We Met
Mason and I met in January of 2014 in Tallahassee during my freshman year at Florida State University. He was finishing up his bachelor’s degree at Florida A&M University, and he worked at a print shop just north of Florida State University’s campus. It was absolutely love at first sight! The night he picked me up for our first date, I knew that I wanted to marry him someday. Everything just fell into place, and we have been together for over three and half years now.
how they asked
The week before the proposal, I had accepted a job offer in Atlanta, Georgia, and Mason said that he wanted to take me out for a nice dinner at the beach to celebrate my new job. He told me how proud he was of me, and that I should pamper myself for all of my hard work. He made appointments for me earlier that day to get my hair and nails done before dinner, and he suggested that I wear my favorite new dress for the occasion. When he came to pick me up for dinner at St. George Island, he handed me the most beautiful bouquet of pink peonies that I had ever seen, and I was in awe!
We made our was to St. George Island, and he told me that we were a little early for our reservation, so he suggested that we walk along the beautiful beach to kill some time. We started walking along the beach, and we were just talking about my new job and our future plans when all of a sudden he stopped and turned to me. He started telling me all the things he loved about me, and how he couldn’t imagine his life without me, and then before I knew it, he was down on one knee holding up a box with the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. Of course, I said yes!!! The moment I did, all of the people on the beach and at the nearby restaurant started cheering and clapping.
Then our friend, Charlene, who is an amazing photographer, came out from behind the jet skis where she had been hiding to take some incredible shots of the special moment. Little did I know that he had been planning this for months, checking my Pinterest religiously, flying down to Miami to ask my parents’ permission, and having my brother help pick out the most beautiful ring from my favorite jeweler in New York City. The proposal was perfect, and I am so lucky to be able to spend the rest of my life with my best friend.
