Krystina and Ryan
How We Met
We met while living in Honolulu, Hawaii. I was a realtor and Ryan was a cargo pilot. If you’re young and living in Honolulu First Friday in Chinatown is THE place to be; they have art exhibits and live music and tons of amazing food. My girlfriends and I decided to go out for First Friday in August… I remember not really wanting to go because I had a full day and didn’t have time to get ready for the night. I reluctantly went out anyway and looking back on it, I’m so glad I did! My girlfriends went to a night club and restaurant called Indigo. We sat at a table and had some cocktails and all of a sudden my girlfriends roommate showed up. He told us a bunch of people were coming to eat and that we were more than welcome to join them. We agreed and told them we would be over in a few minutes after we freshened up. While walking to the restroom I walked past a doorway and nonchalantly looked in only to quickly do a double take of an EXTREMELY handsome, smiling guy sitting at a table. Under my breath I quietly said, “Who is THAT?!” Apparently I wasn’t so quiet because my friend piped up behind me and said, “Oh, that’s Ryan.” I looked at her baffled and asked, “Wait, you know Ryan?! Why don’t I know Ryan?!” We went to the table and we were all introduced to each other. My friend sat in the middle of Ryan and I and the three of us talked the entire time. At the end of the night I remember thinking to myself, “Wow, I REALLY like this guy!” Ryan ended up texting me the next day and shortly there after we went on our first date. We were pretty much inseparable after that! Since then we moved to Las Vegas, built a beautiful home and life together and became puppy parents to an Alaskan Klee Kai.
how they asked
From the time Ryan and I started talking about marriage I always told him I wanted to help pick out the ring. I figure that if you have to wear something for a lifetime you better be in love it with! One night we went to dinner at our favorite pho restaurant. For some reason whenever we go to have pho we have the best conversations ever. Ryan started talking about how much he loved me and the life we built together. He said he always knew he was going to marry me and that he felt it was time to start ring shopping. Even though this wasn’t the actual proposal that night, sitting across from each other in the hole in the wall pho restaurant meant more to me than the actual proposal.
We spent about 5 months and worked with three different jewelers to find the perfect ring.
One day in mid October Ryan asked me what I had planned that night. It was so odd because usually on his days off it’s goes without being said that we would be together. I said, “uhhh, no plans, why?” he asked me if I wanted to go on a date. I replied with an, “of course!” He wouldn’t tell me where we were going but instructed me to be ready by 6:30.
We got in the car and started driving towards the Las Vegas strip and ended up at Rivea, a restaurant on the top of the hotel, Delano. Four years prior to this day Ryan and I had our very first date in Las Vegas here and we hadn’t been back since. Ryan reserved us a table on the outdoor balcony that overlooks the entire strip. That night there was a thunderstorm out in the distance so we watched the lightning as we ate dinner. It was truly stunning! At this point I pretty much knew he was going to propose… We finished dinner and he reached into his coat pocket to pull out…his phone, haha. Yes, he was totally messing with me! Little stinker! Shortly after, he reached back into his coat pocket and pulled out a shiny wooden box, got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I, of course, said yes!
Our engagement story isn’t an over the top, elaborate story but that’s exactly how I pictured it; a beautiful, intimate moment between the two of us! I love this man and cannot wait to spend a lifetime with him.
