How We Met
I was born and raised in India. I moved to the US when I was 15 years old. Coming from my culture, I always thought I would marry a nice Indian man, but life had something else in store for me. When I met Kevin I was just about to start college in a different city, I crushed on his blue eyes as any girl would. I thought that I would forget about him, until he came and surprised me at my college dorm. That’s when our relationship started. A girl that never thought it was possible to be in love with somebody that came from a completely different world happened. After being madly in love it was time to tell the parents. As myself, my parents thought I would be with somebody from my culture, it took a LOT of convincing and a LOT of difficult conversations, but my family finally saw Kevin for the beautiful person he was. 3.5 years later we got engaged at a beautiful park and he involved my best friend in it! I had no idea that from that day on, I would have my best friend and the kindest human I know with me for the rest of my life. 2 months after our engagement we had the chance to go to India and get engaged there! We are also having a wedding in India later this year. What I want people to take away from this story is we grow up, we change and most importantly great things aren’t always what you expected for yourself. That wonderful thing or that wonderful person is out there for you and it might not be what you thought at first.
how they asked
He planned the proposal with my best friend and her fiance. We were about to go to dinner with them and it was a pretty normal day for us. My best friend called and said that before the dinner she wanted to take some pictures at their favorite park. I LOVE pictures so I didn’t think anything of it. We were standing in front of this beautiful waterfall and it was our turn to take a picture, I looked down to fix my dress and when I turned around and looked up Kevin was sitting on one knee with a huge smile on his face. His big blue eyes looked directly at me and he said,” Kritika Sharma, will you marry me?” I was so shocked I asked him if he was kidding, he laughed and I said YES. YES to forever with this wonderful man.
