How We Met
Joe and I met a little over 5 years ago in night class at Temple Ambler. It was only a couple weeks into the class before we began catching each-others gazes and then shyly looking away. I had my eye on Joe from the moment I saw him. His confidence and charm caught my eye right away. Joe always says the first few weeks of class he would try to wait and talk to me after class but I’d always go straight to the bathroom since I had another 2-hour class afterwards. After about 4 classes, we exchanged our first words. It was Tuesday Feb. 14th 2012, it’s a moment we both will never forget. Since it was a night class, we always had a 10 minute break mid-way through. I went downstairs to buy some snacks and Joe was behind me while we were waiting in line to pay. He looks over at me and says “man class is really dragging tonight, right?” I agreed, I was so excited that he talked to me and I didn’t want it to end there. I paid for my snacks and walked to the stairs and waited for him to check out so we could walk up together. He said that in his head he thought to himself “if she waits for me at the stairs she digs me”. Well he was right.
We walk upstairs while shooting the breeze, and I decide I’m going to start sitting next to him in class so I say “I’m just going to come sit next to you since everyone else in this class is weird”. We became Facebook friends the next day. The following Tuesday night class, I sit next to him again and we exchanged numbers. During that class, I was looking as VS bathing suits online because what else do you do other than online shop in a 2-hour long night class? After class, I received my first text message from him saying something along the lines of “did you end up getting that bathing suit?”. I was jumping with joy that he texted me. We went back and forth and then he asked me if I like the flyers, I said yes and he asked me if I would like to go to the game with him on March 6th. I was literally jumping with joy, I remember being in my next night class freaking out with excitement telling my friend all about Joe. I could not wait to hang out with him. He was handsome, smart and funny and I was filled with butterflies when around him. We became exclusive about 2 months later and now, 5 years later and living together, I still feel those butterflies and my love for him continues to grow stronger with every single day that passes.
how they asked
WE’RE ENGAGED!!! Joe had been planning this night for almost 2 months, which is so unbelievable since he is usually not much of a planner. He somehow managed to keep it a surprise and pulled off the most amazing proposal. We had been talking about getting engaged for months, but I had no idea when or how he would do it. On Friday, March 3rd, we woke up bright and early and went to an Orange Theory Fitness class before work. He was acting a little off and he asked me if I was going to wash my hair after the workout (he has never asked me anything like that in our 5 years of dating).
My instincts are usually spot on, so I did have a little feeling that a proposal was on the horizon, but I had no idea it would be like this! After a long day at work and a long drive back to our apartment, I walked in the door and there he was! He was down on one knee with a rose in his hand and a ring on top of the rose. I will never forget the look on his face, he was so nervous but so happy. There was a decal on the wall behind him that said “Will you marry me?” and 2 dozen roses with ring balloons attached to them. I was in pure shock, I pretty much blacked out! I don’t think I realized what was happening. I’d been dreaming of this moment for so long and here it was! My head was up way in the clouds and I just kept saying “oh my god” while nervous laughing so he, trying to bring me back down to earth, says “This is it!!! Will you marry me?” I say YES, of course!
We hug and kiss and he puts the ring on my shaky finger while I admired its beauty. He did SO good! After I somewhat calm down, he tells me that this is just the beginning and we have a whole night ahead. He had my favorite foods waiting for me in the kitchen (pizza and cheese fries) and tells me to start getting ready! I was all over the place, trying on everything in my closet because I had no idea where we were headed. He asks me to be ready by 8:00. At 8:15 a limo driver walks in our apartment and introduces himself, I was already so excited when in comes a bunch of our friends, screaming and hugging me and Joe – it was truly an unforgettable moment. I cannot describe the feeling I had in that moment, it was pure bliss. After all of the hugging and admiring of the ring, we all popped some champagne and then got into the limo.
The limo was a blast, drinks were flowing and music was blasting. 45 minutes later we arrived at our destination, Magerks (a bar/restaurant near our home town). We get out of the limo where I see my family, Joe’s family and all of my cousins storm out of the bar to surprise me. I held it together pretty well until I hugged my mom, that’s when the tears started flowing. I was so happy and overwhelmed with love from Joe and all of our family and friends.
I couldn’t believe he planned all of this for me, I am so thankful for this man. We had one hell of a night, everyone said they have never seen me look so happy. My face was actually hurting from smiling so much. The whole night feels like a dream.
I am head over heels in love with this man, he is my best friend and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life by his side.
