How We Met
I’ve known Grayson’s sister and brother-in-law since I was about 16 years old. After college I moved back to the city where I grew up and reconnected with Lindsey and her husband Rob. I would go over to their house for dinner every Wednesday to spend time with their family and one day, Grayson started showing up to those Wednesday night dinners. For about a month we would have dinner with his sister, brother-in-law, and nieces and nephews before he got the nerve to ask me on a date! Lindsey and Rob would’ve told you back then that they were not trying to set us up but now they admit to their match making!
how they asked
I never want to forget December 16th, the day I found my husband, the day Grayson proposed.
I had a surprise party planned that night for his birthday with all of his friends and family. I had this whole plan where Grayson was supposed to pick me up at 7pm to go to “dinner with my family” but then walk into his own surprise party! It was a great plan that went even better than I could’ve imagined. That morning I woke up so excited and ready to celebrate him. I was talking to his sisters and our friends getting everyone excited for the party. The entire day was filled with decorating the house with my roommates and preparing for the evening. I was so caught up in trying to keep it a surprise and getting everything ready I didn’t talk to Grayson very much throughout the day, which worked in his favor. Earlier in the week he told me that he was having car trouble and I didn’t think much about it, but about an hour and a half before the party Grayson told me I would need to come pick him up because his truck wasn’t starting. I was so thrown off since this was not the plan! But I went ahead and went to pick him up at his house. I pulled up to the driveway and Grayson texted me to come inside. I opened the door and it was dark with our favorite songs playing. I yelled “Hello!” and started walking toward the kitchen, and that’s when time stood still. I see Grayson standing in the kitchen surrounded by hundreds of candles and Christmas lights. When we locked eyes, I knew what was about to happen. Tears streaming down both of our cheeks, I slowly walk over to him. Through his tears Grayson says “I love you” for the first time, and I say “I love you” for the first time too. I’ve been wanting to say those words for so long and waiting to say them until then was so worth is. He gets on his knee and asks me to marry him and I exploded with the most confident yes! There were lots of tears and laughter and hugs and joy and thankfulness. This is the house we will call Home once we are married in June and to have such a pivotal moment happen in our future house meant so much to me.
Once the shock wore off I spilled the beans and told Grayson I had a surprise party waiting for him at the house. He was surprised and said we should go celebrate with everyone! We drive back to my house and walk in the door where I expect to see some of our friends and his family and was completely blown away to see ALL of our friends and family there! Grayson pulled off the best surprise engagement and surprised me with a surprise party that was supposed to be his! I can’t wait to live a life full of adventures and surprises with him. I can’t wait to be his wife.
