How We Met
Ben and I met in Kindergarten and have been best friends ever since. We went to all the same schools, including college. Even our brothers were best friends, so we were always going to similar functions and knew each other’s family pretty well. We were really never more than friends and watched each other go through some pretty bad relationships. Finally, we ran into each other one night after an SU game, and Ben declared he loved me since the second grade. It still took me two months before I took him seriously and we started going on dates.

How They Asked
Every year, my friends and I plan a weekend at my parents’ lake house. This was the fourth year we were going. We were all debating whether or not to go on a hike, but it was a hot, beautiful September day so we decided to make it a boat day. We got out on the water and anchored at our first spot. My friend, Leah, asked me to take pictures of her and my dog, Basil. As I was focused on getting the right angles, I heard Ben saying my name a couple times. I turned around and he was down on one knee. I immediately started crying and couldn’t believe what was happening. He asked me to marry him, and I just sat there shocked with my face in my hands and happy tears running down my face. Finally, one of our friends spoke up, “So, is that a yes?”. I nodded, “YES!!” and I fell out of my seat and couldn’t stop hugging and kissing Ben.
It still took me what felt like forever to look at the ring, which is gorgeous! It was a surprise to all of our friends on the boat as well, except for two of them that Ben told ahead of time to help the proposal go smoothly. After I said yes, Leah brought out champagne bottles, cake, confetti, “best day ever” plates and napkins, and a banner. She managed to sneak all of that on the boat without me knowing. I will never forget that day or that feeling! It brings a huge smile to my face and gives me butterflies thinking back to it.
