How We Met
My fiancé and I met three years ago at a bar outside Buffalo, New York. We were introduced through mutual friends and struck up a friendship from there. I was very adamant that we could not be more than friends as I had just gotten out of a really terrible relationship situation and he respected that while still staying in my life. We hung out all the time and would go to our campus’ library to work together.
I was still keeping my distance, trying my best to pretend I didn’t feel anything towards him. After a few months I couldn’t keep up with pretending and he kissed me. From there we were inseparable. A month into our relationship I got to meet his two kids he had from a previous relationship and from there I knew I found my person and we were end game.
How They Asked
My fiancé asked me to marry him on Saturday, August 22nd in a field next to my step daughter’s school. My best friend is a photographer (Katie Fri Photography) and had taken our picture there before, so when she asked to take family pictures for a family magazine, I was nothing but excited! We had picked out two outfits for all of us and headed to the field for pictures. Towards the end of the shoot, my friend handed me a box and said that the publications sent us t-shirts to wear and asked me to open it to get the kids dressed.
When I opened the box inside was a Bills jersey with the number 20 on it and my fiancé’s last name. It was then I knew what was happening. I had asked him a long time ago as a joke to get me a Bills jersey with the number of whatever year I was going to be officially apart of the family, and so I got the number of the year he asked me to be his wife! I turned around to my fiancé on one knee holding a beautiful ring.
My friend was there taking pictures the whole time and after the ring was on my finger I saw my other friends running from down the hill towards us. He had also gotten the kids jerseys too with the numbers 8 and 22 and himself one with the number 20. SO lined up we were 8.22.2020. It was the perfect set up! Later that day we got to celebrate with more family and friends at our surprise (COVID safe) engagement party. It was the most beautiful day, I cannot wait to be his wife!
