How We Met

It all started in Mrs. Reuter’s 1st-grade class… No, we weren’t dating in 1st grade, but it really has been that long! Mike and I have known each other since we were six-years-old, and have gone through every step of elementary school, middle school, high school, and even college together! It wasn’t until our junior year of college that our friendship turned into a relationship, but having shared the same friends our entire lives, it really does feel like it’s been a lifetime in the making!

how they asked

We were vacationing in Maine the week of the proposal, spending our days hiking along the beautiful coasts of Acadia National Park and the nights enjoying each other’s company in lovely Bar Harbor. After nearly four years of dating, I had no idea that June 8th, 2018, just the third day of our vacation, would be the beginning of a new chapter in our lives.

We started our evening with dinner at the Jordan Pond House, one of best restaurants in the country located within a National Park. The outdoor seating was closed, but we were still able to have dinner with a view of my second favorite view of the trip, “The Bubbles”. After loading up on popovers, crab dip, and Maine’s famous Lobster Rolls, we drove to Beech Mountain to watch the sunset. After a short, yet challenging hike up to a “private” spot Mike said he had found online, we chose a rock to sit on with the perfect view for a sunset over the water and with only two other bystanders to share the view with, everything felt perfect. He laid out his favorite birthday present from a few weeks prior (his Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl 52 Champions blanket) opened two beers, and unbeknownst to me, prepared for what would soon turn out to be the night of our lives.

After taking in the views, snapping some pictures, and marveling at where we actually were, Mike told me he had a surprise. After opening my eyes, I found myself holding “Our Adventure Book”, more commonly known from my favorite movie “Up”. Tears immediately began to flow as we looked through the book containing pictures from the time we met in 1st grade, our first vacations together, and all of the adventures we had embarked on throughout the last four years of our lives together. As the memories got more and more recent before finally coming to an end, there were still plenty of blank pages remaining in the book, which is right when Mike told me that he was going to need someone to help him fill the rest of the pages. He then got down on one knee and with four simple words, changed our lives forever!!

Tears of joy streamed down my face as I immediately said yes, jumping into his arms as we embraced for what felt like forever, before realizing that I had yet to even look at the ring!! As he placed the most beautiful ring I had ever seen on my finger, I began to notice a soft, yet constant clicking noise! I turned to my right to see the two other bystanders that were on the mountain with us taking pictures of us!! I thanked them for capturing the moment and was about to ask them to send the pictures to me when Mike said, “Well, I guess it’s time to introduce you to Kate and Keith,” two adventure photographers that he secretly hired to capture the entire proposal!! I could hardly contain my excitement as we face-timed with our family back home, and with the light, we had left, got to have an engagement photo-shoot right then and there in the sunset! We finished just in time to enjoy the last few minutes of the sunset together, a view nearly twenty-years in the making, that we will now cherish for the rest of our lives together!

I am so lucky and blessed to be able to spend the rest of my life with my best friend, soul mate, and the man of my dreams. Mike did an amazing job and I could not be prouder of my new fiancé! Adventure is out there!!!!!

Special Thanks
