How We Met
Reid and I met at church when I was 14 and he was 15. Over the years, we became friends, but it wasn’t until my senior year that we started dating. He was my date to my senior prom in May of 2012, and the next day he asked me to be his girlfriend. I had actually bought my dress before asking him to be my date. I wanted to feel like Cinderella in a white dress. And now, 5 years later, I get to wear another white dress to become his wife.
how they asked
He had told me previously in the week that he wanted to take me out on a date but that it is was to be a surprise and I couldn’t know where we were going. So on the Saturday of that week, I went to his house and while I was busy upstairs, he stuck a piece of paper in my shoe with a riddle written on it. I had to solve the riddle, and it gave me a clue as to where the next riddle was. We hopped in the car and off we went solving riddles and finding more clues! We drove up to Annapolis where we ended up at his brother’a house and where I found the last clue. It led me up a candlelit path to a tent at the end of the yard.
There were lights everywhere and in the tent he had set up a table with my favorite food from a local Chinese restaurant and two bottles of my favorite drink, Cheerwine. Behind the table were blankets and pillows with his laptop and the movie The Proposal. As we walked up, Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran started playing and Reid got on one knee and asked me to marry him. I started crying before he could even get the ring box out of his pocket! It was perfectly intimate and personal.
