How We Met
Nate and I met while I was working in Port St. Joe, FL as a traveling speech language pathologist. We both joined match.com at about the same time. Nate messaged me one week before my travel contract was ending in St. Joe. (At that point I had no idea where I was going next.) After exchanging text messages for a few days, we decided to have a date the night before I was leaving to head back home to MS for a week. Nate took me out to dinner and then flounder gigging on his boat at sunset. I am a MS girl and had no clue what flounder gigging was but it sounded adventurous to me so I was all for it.
We cruised around in his boat for a while but the water was too rough to fish so we decided to head back to the pier at the Marina. We stayed there for hours talking and getting to know one another. Before we knew it our first date had lasted almost 8 hours. Since that night we have talked every day since. I then decided to take several more travel assignments as close as possible to Nate before eventually finding a full time job in Panama City, FL. We both fell pretty hard for one another. He never lets a day go by without making me smile and feel like I’m the most special woman in the world. I can honestly say I have never been happier in my entire life.
how they asked
Nate and I were on a cruise with his grandparents in the Bahamas. Before we reached port in Nassau, Bahamas, Nate told me he had a surprise for me and we had to get off the ship as soon as we got to the port in order to make it to Atlantis by 2:00pm. When he told me he bought me a swimming with the dolphins excursion in Atlantis at Dolphin Cay, I began to tear up. I told Nate several months before I always wanted to swim with the dolphins and it meant so much to me for him to remember that and surprise me with it.
Little did I know that there was way more to that surprise. As I was playing with Maroo, the dolphin, our trainer had me throw her a tube to fetch. When Maroo brought me the tube back, our trainer had me open it. Inside was a banner that said, “Atlantis Dolphin Cay”.
I looked at the trainer confused and that’s when she told me to turn the banner over. As I read the words, “Will you Marry Me?”, I became an emotional mess.
The song Marry Me started playing over the speaker and the hundreds of people surrounding us immediately began cheering and clapping. When I turned around, Nate was back on the beach kneeling on one knee with an arrangement around him. I felt that I was in a dream. I made my way to the beach to Nate with pure happiness written all over my face. I was so excited and in complete shock that I almost forgot to answer the most important question that I would ever be asked. After I let go of Nate, He asked me “so is that a yes”? Of course I said, YES!! Nate did such an amazing job planning out this very sweet proposal. It was definitely the best day of my life and one I will never forget.
