How We Met
Koty and I met when I was 16 years old and he was 18. Some mutual friends introduced us, and we just clicked. We started dating on June 11, 2012 after a picnic date on Main Street in our hometown. Dating at such a young age was so awesome, yet so challenging. We knew early on in our relationship that we were meant to be together forever, but the timing of us being in high school wasn’t quite right. From watching his high school football games, to staying up way too late on school nights, to double dates with mutual friends, and our families totally hitting it off, we knew we were set! He graduated later that year from high school and moved to the University of Oklahoma to start his college journey, leaving me behind to finish up my senior year. We made the distance work, leaning on absence makes the heart grow fonder. He wrote me a note for every single day he was gone to put in my lunch that I brought to school. (WHAT A SWEETHEART!!!!!) We saw each other just about every single weekend while we were apart, burning rubber on the turnpike from Broken Arrow to Norman. We joke about it now, but I’m pretty sure there wasn’t a time that I left Norman without tears because I missed him so much. My time came to choose a school, and OU was at the top of my list! I was so excited to get my acceptance letter and start my college journey with him by my side. Fast forward to today, the ups, downs, lefts, rights, and everything in between, we have shared. Five and half years down and forever to go loving the man of my dreams! I truly am the luckiest.
how they asked
Last weekend, Koty and I went to Las Vegas for the iheartradio music festival! Little did I know that he had the biggest surprise waiting for me at the end of the trip. We spent a few days in Vegas seeing family and exploring the city that never sleeps. Saturday night we got to see the best concert lineup that either of us could have imagined, yet that was not the best part of the trip. Sunday morning, we got up early and drove to the Grand Canyon. Jamming to music, talking about life and the future, cracking jokes, eating snacks, everything felt so normal. We got to the Grand Canyon and explored around for awhile, totally in awe of what we were seeing. We went from view point to view point taking pictures, staring at the vast beauty, and just chatting about how incredible the place was. Around 2pm we pulled into this specific look out area called Lipan Point. We got out of the car and we were once again completely blown away. After about 15 minutes, we started to walk over to this beautiful rocky area, when koty turned to me and asked if I wanted my camera from his backpack to take pictures.
Of course I said sure, so he reached in and did not grab my camera, but instead grabbed a tiny little box, and I immediately knew. I began to cry without him having to say a single word. The man of my dreams got down on one knee and asked me to be his WIFE!!!!! Holy smokes!
Next thing I knew, I looked over and there were photographers that he had secretly hired to capture our moment. I could not have felt more special in that moment. That wasn’t all that was planned, the surprises just kept coming. We went to the car to change for more pictures, and returned to the area the photographers were. After a couple of minutes, I heard some footsteps and the camera started clicking, as I turned around out pops our entire families!!! They came all the way from Oklahoma to the Grand Canyon to be apart of our special day. I had absolutely no idea any of this was happening, and still a week into engagement I feel like I am in a dream. I am so excited to spend my life with him, and beyond grateful for such a loving and thoughtful man who made one of the most exciting days a fairytale.
